What will the mortality rate come in at?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Just wondering what everyone thought this would be... My guess is in the 65-70% range, but then, I've always stayed to the conservative side of most estimates.

what ARE you talking about guy???

-- lou (lanny1@ix.netcom.com), October 04, 1999.

100%. This is a provable, historic fact. Since I haven't seen any immortals around for a couple of thousand years...

-- Dumb Answer (to_A@dumb_question.com), October 04, 1999.

lou, About a brain-dead population staying in denial over the coming events with many living in the frozen north with empty pantries, no light, heat etc. and an establishment press pumpin' out the warm & fuzzies to protect a fraudulent monetary system. I thought comprehension was one of the existing criteria to participate.

Troll alert.

-- I (can@spot.em), October 04, 1999.

The elderly and sick will go first, then children, then skinny people, then fat people. The true survivors will be women because they have fortitude, stamina and are stronger emotionally than men. Case in point is the famous Donner Party who got caught in a severe snow storm. All the men died, only the women survived. If it's a worse-case scenario 75% of the population will die from the elements, starvation, disease, suicide, and violence.

gloomie,

The Donner Party remains a grosteque tragedy and less a lesson. Having done some x-country skiing at the pass, myself... the tragedy was that they were not that far from people and if they had known a little winter survival, they would have faired better.

Sincerely, Stan Faryna

Perhaps, but they didn't, the women still out survived the men.

Are you people ramblin'?

-- Steve Pace (space@nwaisp.com), October 04, 1999.

Ramblin' is correct, I was just wondering if anyone was storing lime & bulldozer fuel to help keep the air fresh.

-- Patrick McHenry (pmchenry@gradall.com), October 04, 1999.

Plenty of threads all about this in the archives.

Patrick, why complain, you were the one who posted it. If you don't want feedback then don't post threads like this. Is your masculinity threatened or something?

-- gloomie (gloomie@gloomieee.xcom), October 04, 1999.

Gloomie, Not threatened at all... just don't see how such a question could evolve into the perpetual BOTS; more women survived the Titanic as well, but that was due to the fact that chivalry had yet to die. I'm not so sure that today's breed will offer such deference.

-- Patrick McHenry (pmchenry@gradall.com), October 04, 1999.

They are already digging massive holes for mass graves at all the Y2k doomer death camps. Better start hoarding lime, I'm sure the price is going to skyrocket. Supply and demand, its systemic, ya know?

-- . (.@...), October 04, 1999.

Patrick, I hope you are right. However, there's too many one parent families around, daddy is gone, he isn't around and doesn't give a rats ass about his children. So mama is there to protect her children and the "survive at any and all cost" kicks in. The outcome will be very interesting to say the least.

-- gloomie (gloomie@gloomieee.xcom), October 04, 1999.

Naw. I'm hoarding gasoline for my friend Bubba's backhoe...and Bubba will start digging late on January 31, over there by the flags that say buried phone line...

gloomie=gender troll

-- (obvious@sexism.yep), October 05, 1999.

NOTTTTT! And on what basis do you accuse me of "gender troll?"

-- gloomie (gloomie@gloomieee.xcom), October 05, 1999.

So which category of the archives are all these threads in that address mortality issue... I'm looking and I can't find the other threads...

From: Y2K, ` la Carte by Dancr near Monterey, California

If we get a 10, then 99% of those alive today will be dead inside 30 years. Better results in Australia, China, India, and other third world countries.
