Pronunciation of 'Canham'

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

I expect this thread to be immediately dumped in to the 'Uninteresting' category, but I just need to get this cleared up:

While recently shopping for my first 4x5 camera, I asked about the "Con-num" cameras in a local pro shop. I was asked, 'you mean "Can-ham"?' (close to 'canned ham') by the clerk. Being only interested in seeing a few cameras I let it go, but would really like to know how Mr Canham's name is pronounced. Anyone?

Yes it is Can-Ham.

When I talk to Keith he seems to pronounce it with a silent or very soft "h": thusly: "Cannam" or "CANhAM". At any rate the accent is on the first syllable.
