propane lamp question

Can anyone give me an idea of how long (given all the variables, I understand) how long a single-mantle propane lantern can be expected to run on a 16oz tank? Thanks

All night long at the campsite. Depends how "high" you turn propane volumn. Lasts a lot longer if you turn down the gas.

DO NOT use in unvented areas. Can kill you.ww

go to sears and get a hose and adapter (or a 'stick') that will allow you to use your normal 'small bottle' propane appliances on a larger refillable bottle. I have used a 20lb bottle for gas grill and lantern for over a years worth of weekend camping. They also make 5lb refillable bottles that are much smaller.

All the following are based on the 16 ounce short fat propane bottles.

It lights a double-mantle lantern at maximum brightness for 7.5 hours, and at minimum brightness for 18 hours. "Minimum" means the lowest setting where the light does not flicker. It lights a single-mantle lantern for over 11 hours near the maximum brightness, and for 27 hours at minimum brightness.

A single tank, using a one-burner stove cooking at the minimal flame that keeps a boil, will cook 19 meals of Kraft Deluxe mac-cheese. It will cook over 8 meals consisting of two cups of beans, 5 cups of water, soak for 8-10 hours and then cook until done.

On a convertible radiant heater/cooker, the 16 ounce bottle lasted 3.5 hours on the minimum setting and 45 minutes on maximum. I don't recall the BTU rating.

On all of these, your mileage may vary.

Repeating here. I ran a two-mantle propane lantern on high in a closed bathroom with a digital carbon monoxide meter next to it and never got any carbon monoxide at all. Zero. This does not necessirily mean it would do the same on low, which I have not tested. Our kitchen stove is propane, and I have cooked with all four burners at once for years wtih no ill effects. Also set the meter in the middle of the four burners while cooking and got zero reading.
