Attention Computer Geeks

My DWTGI hubby is having trouble with our computer. It has Windows 95 OSR2, computer built in 1997. We discovered on Oct 2, that the year was changed to 2099 (date/time OK) and that most or all files have had their creation dates effected. Yesterday the files said they were created in 2099. We don't know when the year change occured but he fixed it using Norton Disk Doctor.

Prior to this discovery, Norton Utilities version 3.0 had been crashing on boot-up and Netscape 3.0 periodically crashed. This started early in September. With Norton set-up to not automatically run on boot-up, the system worked OK and Norton could be accessed OK.

No Y2K remediation has been done.

Go to this web site. Read it very carefully and follow the instructions to update your Win95OSR2. The stuff works, it should fix Windoze.

You will then have to check other vendor's sites for updates for their software. This is what the Y2K problem is all about. No easy fix.

Good luck.

Homeschooling Grandma,

Go to Norton's Website (i think it is www.symantec.com) and see what can be done to upgrade your version of Norton Utilities. Their current version is 4.0 and claims to be Y2K compliant...Has added a pretty neat Wipe Info utility to wipe free space on disks to keep the snoops at bay!
