What was the meaning of the summary review (when it said that it was funny) when Peter Benton asked if him dating a white woman had anything to do with Carla saying he needs to be raised by black parents, and what does that have to do with Eriq LaSalle himself?

I think Phyl was commenting on the irony of the situation...While the character Peter Benton happily dated and became close to a white female (Corday), Eriq LaSalle eventually spoke to the writers and asked that the story be terminated. He thought it sent the wrong message to viewers- perhaps mainly to African-American viewers- that after two rather tense and unhappy affairs with black women, his first positive romance is with a white woman.
