A More Likely Scenario . . .

If I were to write a book, I could think of no better way to set up the climax than to describe the government doing what ours is. Specifically, I would tell the people that there is an extreme danger of bio and techno terrorist attacks at a particular time. Then, when the date arrives, just send out alerts that, yes, indeed, the terrorists have dealt us anthrax and compu-virus spores in all major cities. Move the troops in and declare martial law. Make myself a king.

Send all those who disagree to Ft. Marcy Park.

Pretty cool story line, huh?

Zev, you can add "cyberterrorism" to the scenario -- computers are flaking out NOT because of Y2K, of course, since the problem was fixed, but rather because of the evil cyberterrorists who want to make it APPEAR that the problem was not fixed.

And don't forget the squirrels.
We have inside info that the blame will shift from squirrels to drunk drivers hitting electricity poles. You know how many drunks will be out careening around the Holidays ...
