Can I use K1 in a camp stove?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I was wondering if I can use K1 kerosene in my camp stove? I have one of those that you put white gas in and pump it up. Thanks in advance!

KY is for other activities...oops you were asking about K1. Nevermind.

If it is designed to take K1 kerosene then, yes you can. Otherwise you can't.

NO!! If you use white gas/coleman fuel in it (and it's reasonably large-ish in a square-ish box with a tank that hangs out on the front) you CANNOT use K1 in it.

And lest you think that the description I used is a flame or talking down to anyone, I have 3 "camp stoves" in which I CAN use K1, but NONE of them comes CLOSE to this description. (MSR X-GK, PK1 Multi, and a European version whose name I forget at the moment).

Chuck,

So why not? Is it the atomizing orifice size that is too large or too small?

Said in another way, can it be modified to burn K1?

If the orifice size is too small then use BOTH Ky and K1.

Dump the gas stove and spend $40 and get a propane stove. Buy a $16 hose attachment and buy several 20LB tanks! You are risking your life with white gas stoves!

Walmart carries an adapter to convert liquid stoves to propane. It looks like the generator tube that goes from the (liquid) tank to the burner assembly.

1) Generator internals wil NOT handle Kero.

2) Orifice size has NOTHING to do with this as the fuel is gasseous by the time it gets to the orifice. To my knowledge, there is no kero generator with which to replace the gas generator.

3) htere is a replacement generator adapter for propane which, with the addition of a hose lets you run the stove off a large propane tank. THE way to go!

I agree Chuck, The hose/adapter and regulator cost approx $20.00 at the Sporting Goods store here.

Remember to keep watch for any new regulations for filling propane bottles that do not have the OPD -overflow protection device- installed. We are supposed to be able to fill the old style until 2001, BUT....

By the way, we can still get propane for $0.99 gal here, how about where others shop?

Local IGA small town is selling 100 pound tanks for $75. (They also have a display full of propane heaters, ranging from $139 (10,000 BTU) to $239 (25,000) BTU, plus two burner non-camp stove (white, just like momma's old gas stove), all sorts of propane lanterns. For a small grocery store they also carry large bags of beans and rice. Think they GI?

Propane fill for the tank is $30 for the first fill (needs purging).

do they have to be used outside?
