Since MARP is unavailable

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

I have emailed my recording to Pat the Judge co-ordinator.

Unfortunately I've been trying for the last 90 minutes to get through to MARP to upload the following scores:

combascb 364940 pang3 1478100 (oh so close to another point) usvsthem 260125 zzyzzyxx 274480

Just so you all know I've been trying and trying to upload these.

Actually I've been trying to keep people out of my office for long enough to get the scores uploaded for the last couple of hours but they just keep on interrupting.

I knew I should have taken the day off today - or at least a half day to take me through to 23:59 GMT.

Yeah... it's yet another server crash by either ZTnet or emuunlimited or whatever hosts retrogames... it has been a very disappointing performance in the last week or two by these main servers...

I'm going to say that everyone has an extra day, you have until 2359 tonight(October 1) to upload what you need - if the server comes up, you get that extra day and that's it... no matter what the server does afterward. Satisfactory to all?

Correction: your recording STILL must be before september 30th - no recordings dated October 1st or later will be allowed. I'm giving the extra day to upload because of server problems.

I have checked, and notice the story that will post shortly on wwemu that the crash is retrogames wide (including the MAME main page) for more, go to http://www.snes9x.com/wwemu It will be there in 15-30mins. Chris

Extending it a day sounds fair. And also players with submissions on hold because of server problems, should follow suit with BeeJay and post your pending scores. This would alleviate any questionable submissions. Sound fair?

I'm not saying anyone would do this but if we extend the time for uploads we really need to allow new recordings as well.

After all, someone could "wind their clock back" to create what looks like another legitimite recording between now and the end of tomorrow - although given the sporting conduct of most of us at MARP, within the rules of the tournament, I don't think any of us would do this but by doing this it would remove any possibility of people alluding to such conduct.

So while it looks like we have to allow another day, perhaps if the server goes down again late tomorrow we could email Pat with our recordings and scores prior to the cutoff time and post them in this newsgroup as well (assuming it's responding) so everyone can see what they have to beat.

I'd say post those scores NOW! If they're legit, then you know what they are already. Do yourself a favor and clear yourself of any eyebrow-raising that may occur tomorrow.

BeeJay and I are now marked men because we have tipped our hand on this final day. So it's only fair...right?

JoustGod has a very good point. If we allow recording for another 24 hours we've exposed our poker hands too early. If we don't allow postings after the server is up for existing recordings then we're penalising people who have recordings to upload.

People if you have scores you're waiting to upload state your scores NOW.

IMHO, the only recordings that should be allowed to be uploaded after the deadline (as soon as the server comes up) are the three from BeeJay, since he stated in time to have achieved those scores.

You know what? Cicca is right. I think I'm going to go with BeeJay needing to upload those four scores, EXACTLY as he posted them on the board. That's it. No other recordings shall be accepted. Nobody mentioned any other scores, so I think that's how I'm going to do it.

I will post them exactly as stated as soon as MARP is back again and I'm back in the land of the living. It's now 01:30am NZT and the 3rd night in a row that I've been up this late due to trying to improve my position in the tournament - although last night it was 03:00am by the time I turned in.

By my calculations my uploads will take me to 366 points - unfortunately just 1 point shy of JoustGod who did a massive jump to 367 just prior to MARP dying - where did those last minute Gyruss skills come from?! I know, probably the same place as my Combat School mission complete.

I am balking on that, I saw MARP down, but I was at work trying to upload. When you stated as long as they were dated on Sept 30, they were fine, I logged out of my email. NOW you won't take them, what gives???
