Tip: Battery Op Carbon Monoxide Detectors on sale at K-mart

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

Just saw that K-Mart (the Big K) sales on various combinations of CO and smoke detectors. Some with both, some plug-in, some battery operated.

At K-Mart, the first alert battery operated CO detector was right around $25 to $26 dollars.

I believe the Wal-Mart flyer (just out) also has some combination of CO and-or smoke detectors on price reduction, also... Don't have more details for Wal-Mart, though...

Just thought I'd pass the info along.

For the purposes of GI's it should be battery operated or battery backup. My Sams has large display @ $38. each on battery backup units. They now have more Y2k inspired items than ever before.

I've seen these battery only and AC with battery back up CO detectors at the above locations. Question... how long will they run on batteries only? Days, weeks, a month? Could not tell by looking at the packaging... and I'm going to get a couple for the house in the next week or so. Thanks.

TC - Yes, I guess I should have stressed finding a battery operated one. Although some GI's will have generators up some of the time-- some plug-ins have battery backups... I did comment with what I thought was more specific info: "At K-Mart, the first alert battery operated CO detector was right around $25 to $26 dollars." (September was subliminal advertising month, I've heard).

Last night I saw the same battery operated first alert CO detector at target for the $24-$25 dollar price. I think that is their "everyday" price. -- -- -- -- -- Ranger Rick,

The model I saw takes one of the 9 volt batteries and I thought that the packaging said that the 9 volt would operate it for about a year. I read it at the store. Haven't opened the one I got yet. I imagine "individual mileage may vary."

I did find it mildly ironic that it comes with a duracell but it also said on the packaging to replace battery with rayovac (model #)...

This was a CO detector (with alarm for CO) only-- not a CO detector and smoke alarm combo.

I don't know what the best model to get is, only that I was looking for a battery op one at a decent price and already have smoke detectors...

Thus is the entirety and extent of my knowledge on these things...

Sorry about the formatting. --------Ranger Rick,

Was supposed to be a separating line and then a new line addressing Ranger Rick's post...
