How do you cope with 9-5..?? : LUSENET : TheLife : One Thread

Sorry to whinge, but I just can't do it. There doesn't seem to be any time left when I get home from work to do more than eat the most basic food, stare dumbly at the TV for about an hour - and then fall asleep. I have been in bed by 9pm nearly every evening..

Clean.. do washing.. pay bills.. cook decent food.. How, how..??? It's a nightmare

(those rolling your eyes, please remember I have done shift work since I was eighteen - so be gentle..)

I just stumbled on this - not even sure why I'm answering as I generally avoid this kind of thing. How do I cope with 9-5??!! Try 24 hours a day - I mean I am on duty 24 hours a day with one thing and another - work (9am-5pm), 2 children (5pm-9am) and a very willing, able, supportive, hardworking husband-lover-friend (not necessarily in that order - it depends on how much time we have left after feeding, bathing, wrangling with a 2yearold and 6yearold, followed by 4 minutes of meaningful conversation which may or may not lead to sex). So, no day is the same really, and we rarely get more than 5 hours sleep a night as the 2yearold wakes regularly STILL (why is the 2nd child harder than the 1st - someone please tell me). Don't get me wrong - I love my children, but I'm heading for 37 this November and hoping that one day I get a sleep-in - that is, any extra time in bed after 6am would be great. Some people hang out for chocolate, but for me, sleep is the best drug.

well, i try my best not to cope with the 9 - 5. so i work from 4pm - 12am. although considering that commuting takes up a good hour for each end - two hours in total - i'm not left with much of a "life", per se. but it's better than having to get up early. and i still get to watch a little of 'ricki lake'! (oh, shut up. you know you have your guilty pleasures.)
