Ford Vehicle Production?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I am a Ford fleet customer, and I recieved a memo from them today letting customers know that "production scheduling for December 1999 and January 2000 is being accelerated and combined into a single 4-week scheduling period." "Orders received after 11/29/99 will be scheduled beginning with February 2000 production". It looks as though the production for December and January will be in November. Just thought this was interesting. Does this mean that there will be no production of vehicles December/January?

Most, if not all, North American Ford plants shut down for two weeks in December.

Otherwise, it could be the company is just covering itself. If there are indeed problems with suppliers and/or equipment, altering the production schedule just in case would seem prudent.

on the fence,

Were you in the same, or a similar, position a year ago? If so, did they do anything like this at that time?

I do not believe that they did this last year. Although I didn't order any vehicles for that particular build period, I do not recall receiving any communication from Ford last year. The memo also stated "Ford Motor Company is taking steps to avoid any potential concerns that may arise from the upcoming Y2K date change. As a result, production scheduling for December 1999 and January 2000 ...."(see original post).

on the fence,

Thanks for that reply! The additional quote ties it directly to Y2K. Hmmmmm...

that's verrrry interesting. i supply a ford supplier. our forecasts right now extend to 13 dec 99, and that week looks normal for most part numbers.

i'll keep an eye on that.

I worked for Ford Motor for 28 years in Brookpark, Ohio. I think that there is a very good possibility that Ford will have very few Y2K problems because all problems are ALWAYS the fault of the people that just transferred or just retired. The people there NOW never make mistakes.

Mr. Pinochle,

ROTFL!

That sounds just like some places at which I have worked. :-)
