Canon RC-1 Switch Settings

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi all! I have a Canon EOS Elan that I've had for some time. I recently picked up a RC-1 remote for it used for a good price, but it only came with the unit and the strap mount. It has a switch with 3 positions marked with a 2, a dot, and an L. Can anyone tell me the meaning of these settings? Thanks a bunch!

L is lock, 1 is normal operation (it focuses and trips the shutter when you press the button), and 2 may depend on your camera. On the Elan II, if the custom function for mirror prefire is set, it activates mirror prefire. I don't know if it does anything on the cameras that do not have this feature. It may activate a 2 ro 10 second self timer, but like I said, I really don't know.

The 2 setting provides a two-second delay before firing the camera. L does stand for lock--it's the "off" position. And by the way, if you use it with the camera set to "bulb", you don't have to hold the button down to keep the shutter open. Press once to open the shutter and a second time to end the exposure.
