I'm not sure this has been posted before but I have done a bit of preparation for my little yorkie.

We just brought home the last bag of her prescription dog food to make it through a year.

Also had her teeth cleaned; several teeth had to be pulled (we have neglected this for too long)

I leveled with the veternarian about my Y2K concerns and just got my second 6 mo. prescription for her.

We also brought a year's worth of Program flea control tablets.

We plan to keep her in the house until we know it is safe to let her out again into our inclosed backyard.

Emotionally, for me, her survival and well being are crucial. She is almost as vulnerable as I with her health problems, and now I do not have to worry about her for a year. She's ll years old so preparing for her was a vote of confidence for her survival.

I think it is important to protect the well being of our pets. My grandmother got lung cancer six months after her dog died. Pets lower blood pressure. They are "comfort" necessities.

We've also stocked on dog and cat food (chicken food still to be stored). The medicines are a good idea. And yes, for many of us, our pets are VERY important...

Don't forget to get those rabies shots updated, too. And have heartworm medicine ahead if your pet is on this. Used to give all our own rabies shots to pets and livestock but unable to buy over the counter now--only a vet can give it....and they can't sell it to you to give. My vet is all for do-it-yourself and save clients but she says the govt. is(once again)here to help us!! Wish they'd leave me alone down here in the Ozarks !!

Yes...we are doing the same. Have one old Border Collie and have her heart worm meds and plenty of ADVANTAGE. Have two young house cats, to cantankerous old quaker parrots and two rabbits, 9 miniture donkeys, a 36 year old mule (hubby's retired pack mule) 7 hens and a potbellied pig. I need to get more chicken feed and rabbit and pig feed. Am planning on doing that in the next week. Between the rabbits, pig and chickens we have no food garbage. Our critters are our kids, especially the cats, dog and pig who all have access to the house. Taz

Don't forget the distemper shots!!! Also check out the pet section of your local health food store. I got an herbal immune system forumla and a kidney formula for my catz. Oops. pardon typing. Broke my finger and sprained my wrist this week.

We have 2 young healthy cats and an elderly deaf DALP (dog, assembled from leftover parts) who has cateracts and arthritis. I have been stocking up on old dog's medication. We have been having a hard time deciding what to do with him. Hubby thinks he should be put down because he is so old. I say as long as he is not in pain, we keep him. I still have to get his teeth cleaned before end of year.

Grandma

It's horrble, I know, you're not alone. The sad thing is that our parents are not in a state that is much different from our elderly dog. Except that we have thought it through with our pet, and our folks are in a grand state of denial. I hope y'all are keeping journals, I wish I could...take care of yourselves - please -
