Have a Sysop complaint from some poor inundated person...

Subject: please stop the abuse of your bulletin board

Hello,

I am the postmaster at xxx.com [note--snipped real domain name--to avoid further "abuse"]

Someone has been posting to your Y2K Time Bomb bulletin board, using the fake e-mail address of xxx@xxx.com [note--snipped real domain name]

Because of this, I have received a half dozen e-mail responses today alone.

I have no idea how to stop the e-mail. I have no interest in your topic. Please stop this person from abusing your bulletin board and my domain.

Thank you.

Again...

POSTER REQUEST: Though we prefer real e-addys since they dont clog up the system as much, please be aware if and when you use a fake handle not to choose one that could conceivably be someones actual Com/Net/Org domain name. Theyll start receiving your mail and its bad netiquette to set them up like that.

If you need to check, do so at Network Solutions (InterNic) WhoIs database.

http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois/

Preferably, just don't end an anon post with .com, .net, or .org.

Thanks,

Diane
A TBY2K Sysop

Hi Diane!

Wouldn't it help to post what that domain is, so that maybe the person using it would know that they are the one? I understand if you don't want to do this...

"Owl" please pay attention!

"I have no interest in your topic."

I wonder if he/she will be interested in another 98 days or so.

yeah, oughta not smack a gift horse in the snout -- it's a blessing, a little eMail clue ... more clueless DWGIs out there, *sigh*

Okay,

Just don't spam the poor person...

Owl is using: woo@woo.com

Had to go and change your e-mail addy to: woo@woo.xcom

You can see how simple that is.

I understand that the presence of a tilde (~) in an e-mail address will invalidate it. Read this somewhere, don't know where.

-- Tom Carey (tomcarey@mindspring.com), September 24, 1999.

Tom: pronounce 'tilde' for me.

most flamers use anon. e- mail.[cowardly] but ALLOWED by moderators.

-- truth sets free. (dogs@zianet.com), September 24, 1999.

It's "allowed" by the Greenspun/MIT forum software al-d. We have no control over it.

If Phil Greenspun decides to "change the posting and e-mail address rules" then... they'll change. And only then.

Lisa - My Spanish teacher pronounced it "till-duh".
