Actually, what he said was that he was glad Harlan was no longer able to harm people. There are many ways Harlan could have stopped harming people. It just happens that his dying was the way it happened in this case.

This is Poole's idea of humor. A photo of the NC floods is entitled, "Dweezilor remediates the Y2K problems at a plant near Greenville, NC." A balloon from one of the flooded buildings reads: "Oh man!!! My buddies at CSY2K ain't gonna BELIEVE this one! I set the network date to 02-29-00 and the lights went out! And there's water EVERYWHERE! Hey!!! Where'd everybody go?"

And this person calls himself a Christian? Poole, you scurrilous codpiece, send a donation to help these poor people immediately:

Obviously he doesn't live in Eastern NC. Don't think he should visit soon, either.

I would like to believe his point of view that nothing much is wrong or will happen. My instincts are telling me otherwise.

Suppose you are on an airplane that has several experienced pilots. Suddenly the instruments start showing some kind of anomaly. The pilots all disagree: Is it serious? Will the plane crash? What exactly are the instruments saying?

Now, all these pilots are very smart people, and very experienced, yet they have diametrically opposed views of whether anything is wrong with the plane, or if it is, whether it's serious.

Oh, and there is no place to land the thing. It has to keep flying constantly.

You're the passenger. How comfortable are you? What do you do?

You start making a parachute!

One remark I must make to Poole: There is nothing immoral about being armed. The morality or lack thereof come with the use, not the mere posession, of a weapon. He is a Christian, yet Christianity spread throughout the world largely because Europeans used firearms. Christianity and Islam are the very archetypes of religion spread by force. So why the jitters over guns?

If you cannot take it, please do not dish it out. It is disappointing (putting it mildly) to think that you suppose yourselves to be: 1) the saviours of society; and 2) the people from whom the human race will spring after we polly's are all dead.
