NBC BLASTED FOR UPCOMING Y2K SCARE FILM

WASHINGTON -- The NBC-TV Network has been hit with stinging criticism over plans to air Y2K -- a two-hour suspense thriller about a trouble-shooter trying to save the world from catastrophic computer disaster -- just weeks before New Year's Eve 1999!

"This is one of the most irresponsible things to ever come out of Hollywood!" charged a lawmaker on the Senate Special Committee on the Year 2000 Technology Problem.

"Why is NBC doing this? There are going to end up scaring people into a complete panic. Shame, shame, shame on them!"

On Wednesday NBC announced plans to air Y2K on November 21, in what is being described as a "Sweeps Event."

"As the millenium dawns in North America, most of the Eastern Seaboard suffers a major power outage," NBC said in a press release. "But the worst is yet to come. Nick [a complex systems failure expert consulting the government played by actor Ken Olin] must stay ahead of the unpredictable Y2K bug as it spreads across the United States threatening everyone, including his own family on the West Coast."

In NBC's Y2K, the computer bug causes widespread ATM failures -- a plot twist that has one U.S. Senator concerned about real-life bank runs!

"After people see this movie, they could get the idea in their head and rush to the bank to get money out -- this could trigger cash problems," said the Senator, who asked not to be identified.

In NBC's Y2K -- a nuclear power plant even threatens to go into meltdown.

[As long as the radiation spreads to Burbank.]

On the NBC evening news just minutes ago we were told that banking and finance get 5 stars....utilities get 4 stars.....government and transportation get 3 stars. Watch out for some of the medical devices and doctors computers. Medicade and small businesses need to speed up but don't expect any big problems....just a few minor ones.

Lots of talk about Y2k on the tube today. I am still getting some mixed messages.

Maybe the gov has decided it is Ok for a little entertainment....

Time will tell.....................................

Now we have a clue as to what happened to the 3 Y2K movies originally scheduled to come out on the Big Screen this Fall ...

If the U.S. Senator thinks a NBC movie can bring down our banking system, then it is really shaky. Like kids say,"FIRST ONE TO THE BANK GETS THE MONEY. LAST ONE IS A STINKER."

Hey, we can't have this kind of film being shown. It might start people to thinking and the last thing the government wants is the people to start thinking. Why, the last time that happened, a little over 200 years ago, it caused a Revolution!

...and then they can blame the whole goddamed thing on NBC. Poor bastards -- betcha it never airs.

So.. its perfectly okay to show people blowing each other away every few minutes. No huge protest that it might cause people to be more violent. Just stick a PG-V rating or some such up in the corner and it is okeedokey. No problem.. just stick a PG-H (for hype or hoax.. which is all Y2K is, right?) up in the corner for a few seconds and let us watch the movie.

And tc... about the stars. You can get them at any teacher supply store. Let's see.. how many would Jane Garvey like? How 'bout the NRC? DoD? Got a whole box full. You all can grade yourselves. Don't be shy.. step right up. Here.. want a "Y2K Ready!" button for your lapel too? Smile for the cameras. That's it. No pushing or shoving. Enough stars for everyone. Happy, happy, joy joy. Group hug.

Amazing NBC Ratings. Even the incompetent got 2 stars which implies they did something right. (Fail the class and get a C) I didn't see a meteor panic when "Deep Impact" hit the movie scene. the polys will brush off the new NBC event as B S and nothing will happen.

My nephew works for a big computer company in Palto Alto Ca. His younger brother has just started a new computer consulting firm. Duh. Talk about timing. Curly just can't figure all this stuff out. Who is kidding who or Who's on first?

I'll bet 40 cans of Crisco that Clinton preempts to address the nation or Sadamn acts up and we bomb him or something extravegent like that!

Wouldn't it be kewl if the only sponsors NBC could get were all the outcasts - KIA, Polaroid, my local mattress dealer...

-- Brooks (brooksbie@hotmail.com), September 23, 1999.

Nah, we've been bombing Sadham every day. It's just not on the news anymore. Try East Timor.

You are being given the key here folks. Don't misunderstand what they are doing. NBC is part of TPTB. TPTB are choosing when to start the panic. This is a controlled burn intended to keep control over the situation. Think it through. Its like an alcoholic who creates trouble in a relationship because that gives him control. Elsewise he must wait for a problem not of his own making and control to cause HIM to become out of control. Same idea here. They will start the 'panic' with enough time to settle everything down or clamp things down (put troups in place and make a nice PR event out of it, get everyone 'one their side' against the 'rioters' and 'hoarders', etc so that going into the rollover they have people completely depedent on the words and actions fo the government). I have got to hand it to them, they are SLICK indeedy.

We have until mid november and then must become very inoccuous and invisible. Don't wait on this. These people are cleaver.

I totally agree with you: I have "strong vibes" that this is being allowed for just that reason, I would bet a solar panel system on it! (Maybe I'll get one this way!)This means we must all be ready before the stampede. I think those who think it won't awaken the sheep are are underestimating the power of their reaction to "Hollywood stuff". The same people who won't come to the Internet to learn about their society are the ones who will watch this and bolt for the supermarket and clean out the shelves!!! Just MHO.
