I don't think there will be bank runs because

I don't think the banks will even let it get started. I think on/or before Dec 28, the banks will shut down for holiday, with the Sec of Treasury, of Klinton explaning that its going to take a week or 10 days to bring the system up and test as they go. This will have the spin on it that we should be grateful that they are being sooooo cautious with OUR money. Credit cards will be all that is available for spending during that time period. Then if they bring it up and there are no big glitches, the sheeple will go back to sleep. If there is even one large bank that falters, it will be 'Katie, don't bar that door or we will break it down' as the herd comes to a full stampede. But by that time the doors are closed and locked and they are in full control of you. They will then ALLOW you to have only so much money from your account each week. They will not cash pay checks. You will have to deposit and tho you may deposit $1000, you will only be allowed to spend it by writing checks. You will not be allowed cash. And if this happens, those of us who have already pulled out and have the cash are going to have to be very careful...not of the criminals out there, but of the banking/gov't/big brother syndrome. IOW ...don't go around spending cash. Use your credit card, write checks and bitch about it with all the other sheeple. Same thing when the food and water lines start. I will not be there for the first few days, but I will be there when things have calmed down and the sheeple are 'organized', just so those in the community can see me there getting my cheese, oat meal and p-nut butter commodities. ITSHTF, you are going to have to be better prepared than just with food, water and shelter. You are going to have to have your head engaged and shifted into survival mode. You may be a little smug because you prepared, but you better keep your mouth shut and the grin off of your face. In this war, loose lips could sink families real quick.

Taz, who on this first cool day of the season feels her "innerds" starting to go into the hunker/bunker/hybernation mode. When I lived in the north there was always this pressing need of getting the veggies in before frost and getting the rest of the winter's wood cut and into the woodshed before winter. This will truely be a terribe "Winter of Discontent"...starting out as a "winter of Disconnect".

I keep $20.00 in my checking account just to keep it open (it's free). If you have cash, you won't need to bother with banks. If it gets to the point where the banks won't give you cash, you problably won't be going to work either. Businesses will not be able to operate without cash coming in and cash going out. Not everyone has a checking account and not everyone has a credit card, and without money, you can't pay your credit card payments. My son is one of those people, he pays his bills with MOs and keeps cash. He cashes his paycheck at the bank it is drawn on. The days are getting short, time to tie up the loose ends and prepare for the worst....Tight Lips

Taz, your scenario might be plausible IF there is no stock market crash before Y2K and IF no other unexpected catastrophes precede Y2K; but should sudden disaster(s) happen before late December, your scenario will freeze.

Cash -- withdraw early and withdraw often.
