Y2K Radio- Schematics?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

I used to have some links, but lost the file , on simple radio schematics that could be easily built from Radio Shack or other common parts such as salvage. What I would like to find are simple plans for a sideband transceiver, an AM transceiver, an FM transceiver, and a low power CW rig. My preference is for pre- PLL designs.

I think these kinds of plans would make a good hedge. Besides, it would be fun to build something from scratch. Sometimes in the past I have "remodeled" things into odd containers. For instance as a joke I am going to take a cheap little AM/FM reciver and put it into an empty Dak ham can, and call it a 'ham radio'. (Nyuk nyuk yeah I know.) I also want to enter the world of laptop design by putting one into a plastic pink flamingo- lift his wing to expose the keyboard and monitor!

Hey, we all have hobbies.

Hi Forrest,

Look up QRP on the 'net. Lots of really low cost transceivers you can build (quite a few in the $30 range).

Or -- join the QRP email list at: http://qrp.cc.nd.edu/QRP-L/

Good question re old schematics. AA2GS, Russ, Independence, KY, and I were just discussing that on 3.395 this morning (We're trying to do a regular Y2K Net thing 5AM CT -- so far no joiners.) He's thinking of buying the QST back issues CD ROM to have a source -- makes sense. I myself have bought a couple QRP kits -- but they're all CW only. Would like to find a simple-to-build SSB QRP circuit. Anybody know of one?
