The O.M.B. lied in "97% Ready" headlines!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

It was all over the news last Tuesday - "97% ready!" but they contradicted the findings of the government's own Stephen Horn, appointed to research and report this info, who said it was actually 95%.

"5 percent of the systems most critical to the government's mission are still not ready, Horn said."

Stephen Horn

I compared the math between the 2 reports, and Stephen Horn is correct, even if you use the info given by the O.M.B. See other post for math calculations: post

This is BULLS**T!!!

Amazing. No one even cares. What would you say if the government told you that you were in a 33% tax bracket but they were taxing you 35%...nothing? Well I don't know about you sheeple but I'm sending out e-mails to the media of this little factoid. It might help some people realize that virtually nothing the government has been telling them about Y2K thus far has been true.

@:

Even if everyone were being as honest as they could be, those silly numbers are plus or minus about 40% anyway. That's just the nature of the beast. How excited are we supposed to get?

Flint,

Understand your point but this is an intentional deception. They should have been using the numbers that Horn reported just 4 days earlier. How excited should you get? Well, I would think at least as excited as you got when Clinton lied about where he's been putting his penis. We had to listen to an uproar about that for over a year and this issue is a lot more serious.

@@, if you went to the trouble to do the math, then you may indeed have a descepancy here. If you can get an email for Horn or someone in his office, it might be worth contacting him to get his take on this.

Thanks FactFinder,

I'm looking into that but having a hell of a time getting his e-mail. They need one of the 9 digit zip codes for areas that he covers and the damn post office site is down! Even though I know the government always finds a way to dance around these discrepancies, it would be nice to hear the explanation. Hope the media will press for an answer.

Hey thanks a lot cb! That is a hell of a lot slicker than the way Horn has got it set up at his page. Appreciate it.
