Although around 1500 rescues have taken place in North Carolina, there are still more people in dire straits, perhaps as many as 1500 more, according to local news. Governor Hunt today made a plea for private helicopter owners to help rescue those people still stranded in flooded areas. Some rivers have not yet crested. More than half a million homes are still without power. The Red Cross says it sheltered around 400,000 people at the height of the storm; it is now housing around 5,900. Raw sewage was visible as it gushed out of the Wilson treatment plant. News helicopters couldn't get near the worst areas because of the number of helicopters effecting rescues--so many that a Coast Guard helo was necessary to hover above it all and direct traffic. The scenes were heartbreaking.

Floyd first affected Florida on Wednesday and has just gone east into the Atlantic, possibly to bother the British Isles next week. Let's see--Wednesday to Saturday. I do believe Floyd was a three-day storm.
