The facts are presented in this thread and others. The trend toward totalitarian government in the U.S. should be obvious by now, to even the marginally informed.

I don't think people realize what is being taken from them. I see a great deal of unwillingness to face facts, to address them reasonably and honestly. The apparatus of control is encouraged by this, by our apathy and gullibility, and it grows stronger and bolder. And we parrot the rationalizations: "the drug war," "stopping whacko cults with guns," "fighting terrorism" - all a mask for the dismantling of a free republic, the piecemeal implementation of a sterile, global socialist hive. The militarism, the oppression, grows; and we seem willing to accept "just a little more" loss of freedom for one more empty promise of saftey and security - until the balance tips, and once again the ditches are full of bodies, the police are everywhere watching everybody, and everything not forbidden is compulsory.

Look at the 20th century as it passes. Take a good look. This is the pattern. Is it something that happens only to Germans, Russians, Italians, Japanese, Chinese? Did our WWII victory alter human nature, or magically banish the threat of central-state-tyranny that the founders of our Republic specifically fashioned our government to prevent?

The balance is close to tipping, and, as a nation, we have our heads in the sand. Nothing could matter less than the identity of this writer.
