Not your typical city staff meeting

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I am a city engineer with a municipality of about 15,000 pop. in Northeast Texas. I was at our weekly staff meeting that includes the city manager, fire chief, police chief, planning and development, finance, and utilities management staff. Towards the end of the meeting, the director of finance handed a FEMA brochure to the city manager and said that y2k awareness week was coming according to FEMA and do we want to do anything for it. The city manager replied that our small city was finished with its repairs, y2k brochures were in the foyer of city hall if anyone wanted them and that was enough. Then our director of planning and development (a 100% polly denial doesn't want to even discuss y2k period) said that nothing was going to happen, but if it did, he had a gun and he would go find people that had food if it came to that. He usually is joking around about things but he seemed serious about that last statement. I had to know, so I looked him in the eye and asked was he serious about taking food from others? He never cracked a smile and said you *^& ((*&& better believe it. Well, you could have cut the air with a knife about that time. The police chief setting beside him asked him if he would be wearing a vest. The director of planning just looked at him in silence. The police chief stated that the reason he asked is so he would know where to aim. I was rotflmao!

Glad I don't live in your town, because your "planning and development," director isn't right bright. How in the world did he get that job anyway? Your police chief sounds like our sheriff, and our sheriff is a BIG GI! I'm afraid there's lots of nuts out there who think like your city planner and they are the reason why WE are armed and dangerous.

Uuuggh, hope that's not the typical meeting :-(
Some big brutes think they're way up on the food chain and can just pick off the meek.
Maybe all these brutes will duke it out before they get far ...

Sounds like your police chief is a good 'un! Priceless, James.
