How about some good thoughts for us in the path

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

A bunch of us are possibly in the path of Floyd. Stan, Cory, Scott, Sally, Jim Lord (he was in the area as of last night) and a whole bunch more. How about sending us some good vibes.

My server in South Carolina seems to be down. (www.y2kkitchen.com) I hope the folks who take care of it are OK. My son is in North Carolina. I'm worried.

I don't need to prepare for the hurricane, as I am prepared(ing) for Y2K. The only thing I did was top off my gas tank. I did go into the grocery store because I needed a few normal items. The water shelves were bare, but the canned food shelves were full even though they had good sales posted.

The only thing I am going to do is some laundry in a few minutes. I want to have clean underwear.

Add Paula Gordon, Stuart Umpleby and I'm sorry about those I haven't mentioned. I'll think of you as soon as I press submit.

Major life events, from childbirth on out, *always* seem to require clean underwear! Must instill this in my five-yr-old, who never wants to wear any. y2k kitchen is a terrific site, and wow, are you ever in the thick of research. Best of luck,

There's a whole bunch of preparedness stuff that's going to occur to you in the next day or two. You're going to hit yourself on the head and say "wow, how could I forget THAT?".

When you have a minute, tell us what those things are. Sorry, but you get point this time.

Sally:

If the predicted track is correct, the worst part of the storm should move over areas like Pinehurst, Wilmington, Durham, etc. They are "only" predicting 70 mph winds for those areas. Let us hope it is true. I have survived 110 mph winds in hurricanes so 70 would be bad but not horrible. If it is true people should survive. Let's hope.

Best wishes

The prayers of those of us from Kaua'i are with you...and those who live wherever Gert makes landfall...

Sally, wanted you to know that it was the information in your website I chose to printout to give to my Dh's employees to include with a letter he drafted warning them they had better take notice of what was looming ahead. Your Bean Theory seemed to be just the hook I needed.Always meant to email you and thank you for your efforts. You have my prayers for your family and everyone else at the mercy of this storm.

Sally, I'm sending good thoughts your way. God Bless, take all care and let us know what we can do, if anything, to help.

Sally, my good vibes started a few days ago as Floyd was heading for Uncle Deedah, and will continue 'til Floyd is a cold wind somewhere in the north Atlantic.

Sally,

I am also in the projected path. But it should be downgraded to tropical storm status by the time it hits Cape May, N.J.

Water is the big thing. Tomorrow I plan to fill up five barrels and put them on my trailer in case power goes down. I can drive around and help some folk. Have some dead trees that concern us but they are not on our property unless they fall. Ouch.

Here's a thought:

"Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am thy God. I will help you, I will strenthen you, I will guide you with my victorious right hand." -Isaiah 41:10 :-)

In the midst of the storm Jesus said, "Peace, be still." Let Him speak that to your mind everyone. :^)

Mad Monk,

Kauai....really?

My wife and I birded the islands a year after Iniki hit there. That was horrible. There were a couple of species unique to your island that were not found after that hurricane and are now presumed extinct.

We actually got to see Albatross nesting on this guys property. What a sight to see their dance. What a beautiful island. The tropicbirds and boobies were exceptional.

Were you there for Iniki?

Sally, TPTB in Durham are now saying it looks as if Floyd will be another Fran--bad, but nothing like Andrew. The storm is down to 115 mph and the track is a bit more east, although they still have it coming ashore around Wilmington. Sure hope Critt got out early because Sweetie (and media reports) said I-40 from Raleigh to Durham was a mess--traffic moving around 15-20 mph.

BB, Are boobies a kind of tropical bird? Are they as soft as.....?

-- GI (GI@y2k.com), September 15, 1999.

Boobie birds turn me on!

Sally, praying for ALL of you.

BB, you really set yourself up for that one! :-) PS- that's my favorite scripture.
