Just curious...another one of my forums. Out of the GI crowd, what is your prefered firearm? hunting/defense/general purpose? Just trying to gauge the trends and curves to watch for shortages....(My own is a M-4 Carbine, Beretta92FS, Mossberg M590 Military12,Springfeild M-3survival carbine) any other preferences?

I prefer a fire-suppression water bag filled with a 50/50 mix of diesel and gasoline. Use the steady-stream nozzle for maximum distance.

Look man yesterday you got all these military dudes to say who they were and now you want know what kind of arsenal we're all holding?

Why so you can fill out some kind of report or something to the .gov? Are YOU .gov?

Jesus H. Christ man why don't you get us to list our addresses too? That'll make "their" job easier won't it?

No...not .gov Just .concerned and .curious. Spent ten years in the army, and learned on various occasions that the most dangerous opposition out there is the guys who USED to be in. I'd rather know what kind of playing field there's gonna be when all hell breaks loose. But no...calm down there x-files, I ain't no fed. Besides...I think that the 'powers that be' already have that information you simp... I KNOW my name is on a list somewhere. You buy a gun legally in this country and not lie on the forms and hey! They got ALL they need. I'm under no illusions my friend they KNOW all and they SEE all. Hell, if you fill out a warranty card for your pc they can get that info too...so go paint someone else w/your conspiricy brush pal. I just wanna know who's gonna come to 'play'when the SHTF.

Valid point Billy...

get drunk...I believe you have spend far too long under the bridge my friend...come on out...let the good doctor assure you that the Federales are firmly aware of whom is where, carrying what, and how this crisis is going to unfold. I myself prefer the H&R side-by-side 12 gauge loaded for bear. An old gun for an older man.

Get any reliable semi-auto .30 (ammo availability important concern) rifle that accepts detachable magazines. Does everything. Up, close, far out, one target or many.

But having a selection of tools is even better.

Keep your...

>> Out of the GI crowd, what is your prefered firearm? hunting/ defense/ general purpose? <<

This assumes that a necessary part of "getting it" is owning firearms. Not so. Also, judging from the replies, which are unanimously anonymous (try saying that fast) another part of "getting it", along with owning firearms, is a deepfelt need to remain untraceable and a heartfelt distrust of government.

I don't own any firearms. I don't have the time to spare for learning how to use one properly, and if I don't know how to use it I sure don't want to own one. I live in a Western state (Oregon) that has lots of open space and a lot of hunters. I accept guns and hunting as a normal part of life. But I just don't "get it" when I read all the anonymous postings here and elsewhere that insinuate that guns are not for hunting game animals but for killing or maiming other humans.

Yeah, sure, the people who make these dark threats always identify the potential victims of their bullets as "bad guys". Of course they do. Who would tolerate them shooting just anyone they felt like shooting? But half of the time these postings are nothing more than thinly veiled revenge fantasies and the other half of the time they are undisguised calls for overthrow of the government (always in favor of something "better", but pretty hazily defined).

A newbie reading this thread might be forgiven if they drew the conclusion that we in this forum are a heavily-armed and mistrustful bunch. The only way to fight that conclusion is to weigh in on the opposite side.

So here goes: Some among us are not anonymous. Some are not armed to the teeth with an arsenal of guns. Some of us think that the US government is salvagable enough that we continue to prefer it to whatever we might be likely to get after its violent overthrow. I thought some lurkers would like to know that.

Brian I think he meant GI=Government Issue as in military not Get It.

I favor the old reliable Winchester '94 (first built in 1894), in .44 magnum, short barrel, large lever hoop (for use with gloves or large hands). This is particularly useful for pig hunting in the jungle (large slugs are not deflected much by the stray leaf or twig).

For defense, I really like a pump shotgun, with alternative rounds of rifled slugs and 0-0 buckshot. The distance isn't all that much, but if they are far away, they aren't much of a threat.
