What a bunch of crap. He just said 9/9/99 was a good indicator that the y2k transition will be smooth (uh except for the Chinese stock market fiasco...)

-- (@ .), September 10, 1999.

Now he's saying Mexico is "doing very well"

-- (@ .), September 10, 1999.

Said Venuzula, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, 3 of our 5 biggest foreign oil sources may be toast, but not to worry cause we have a three week strategic reserve...

-- (@ .), September 10, 1999.

Says have three days of food and water. Unless you're in Miami, then they reccommend 10 days.

-- (@ .), September 10, 1999.

Says personally all he is doing is the 3 day food and water and a flashlight. He's not taking out any more money than usual.

-- (@ .), September 10, 1999.

Says to trust him and Bill. Says If things go way south, he knows people will come looking for them (uh, yeah right...)

-- (@ .), September 10, 1999.

Although he's been telling local government officials that if things go wrong, people will come after THEM with pitchforks, not him.

LOL!

Thanks for the updates!

Can you give us a closer wording on how "toasty" the oil producers are expected to be?

I wonder, does anyone out there think that the government is beginning to believe it's own spin? They give people the 3-day snow storm routine, and then instead of preparing for worse, they start buying into their own hype? ALSO, is it my imagination, or is all news coverage, not just Y2K, beginning to sound less and less informed? It's as if no one is doing any reporting any more, let alone investigative reporting.

3 day storm? Up North we need more than flashlights to keep warm!

(He doesn't mention heat sources for the 3 days of storm!)

-- Sandwich (anon@anon.com), September 10, 1999.

Did he really say 10 days for Miami?. I guess if we take the recommended number of 10 days and multiply it by common sense (5) I guess Miami is toast.

Anyone know why ?

-- stasher (stasher@stashit.com), September 10, 1999.

He said Miami officails are saying 10 days cause that's what they normally advise during hurricanes.

-- (@ .), September 10, 1999.

..hurricanes and massive simultaneous parallel systemic failures...

-- a (a@a.a), September 10, 1999.

I read into this that Kosky meant the Floridians were capable of preparing for a 10 day storm because of their experience with hurricanes. It is with this illogic that he recommends that they prepare for 10 days!

Kinda like relative preparation rather than absolute preparation. So, since there is never a storm in San Diego, following Kosky's logic, they have no experience with storms and should not prepare for y2k!!!

I believe Koski got his "10 days for Miami" riff from the Red Cross. A few weeks ago, I was looking at the Red Cross Y2K preparedness page. The organization was holding preparedness meetings in different cities (not sure if they were public or not), and telling people at each location to prepare for the length of time which offers the greatest comfort level. On their website they reported that Miami officials were most comfortable with the 10 day preparedness scenario because of their experiences with Andrew. That hurricane REALLY caught people off guard. They are now a little gun shy and don't want a repeat.

The K-Man obviously has not read Congressman Horn's report that was published today.

If I live in the North, how do I preserve water for a three day period? Doesn't my water turn to ice after the first day?
