Are you ready? ~ Supply sources on the web.

1999 is here. Are you ready?

http://www.cnet.com/Content/Gadgets/Showcase/DangerousLiving/index.html?st.tv.cn

Ready for what, you ask? What about all those nuclear warheads left over from the ex-Soviet Union? Are they all accounted for? Are you sure? The global economy's been skittish lately, and the word collapse is on a lot of people's lips. Could this be 1929 all over again? That meteor shower in November...intense...maybe it's a precursor, a sign of bigger things to come--a gigantic asteroid! And don't even get us going about the Year 2000.

We thought we'd take a break from wringing our hands and tearing out our hair over the approach of the historically terrifying millennium, and point out some of the most interesting, unusual, and potentially useful disaster gadgets and gear we've found for sale on the Web. You'll find alarm systems, water purifiers, radiation detectors, two-way radios, and items powered by solar energy or a hand crank. We can't guarantee that any of them will save your life in a disaster, but they do provide food for thought. And some of these products might pique your interest even if you don't think the world's coming to an end.

There are no guns or other weapons in this story. But if you're interested in other items to protect yourself in the worst situations imaginable, then read on. You can never be too prepared!
