Inclusive Survival Lists?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : HumptyDumptyY2K : One Thread

Are there any real good lists available for download that give a complete itemized inventory of what a family of four will need to survive the worst case senario or even a medium problem? I bought an Apple computer(ibook laptop) and apparently it's not subject to the potential problems with a two digit code. I guess I'll find out soon enough. We've made it past the first hurdle...9/

Paul,

For a document that provides a good list of moderate preparations, check out the Cassandra Project at www.cassandraproject.org

But don't stop there, check out the TB2000 preparation archives at http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a.tcl?topic=TimeBomb%202000%20%2 8Y2000%29%20Preparation%20Forum

The iBook won't work if the lights go out unless you have provided for some alternative source of electricity.

I've studied lots of preparedness and survival lists and accumulated my findings in my own personal superlist.

Questions such as yours are most appropriately addressed at the Preparation Forum which Stan cited, above.

after reading dancr's list of supplies, I realize that I'll never be ready. I guess I'll have to try and hunt for my food. Does anybody know how to smoke meat?

That's not supposed to be a list to be sure to have one of each thing. It was originally intended for me, to not to forget to give consideration to these things. For example, under the mail order food section, I hardly ended up buying anything, opting instead to buy into some Community Supported Agriculture [CSA] and also purchase a good supply of non-hybrid seeds. Do try to get at least something in each of these categories: shelter, water, sanitation, medicines, pantry, cooking, and first aid.

Dancr,

What an incredible gold mine of information!

I've been researching prep stuff for a year and a half, writing articles and giving workshops and still I found a half dozen really useful resources in just the first few minutes of browsing.

THANK YOU.

Dancr -

just recently used (distilled) your list into one of my own. ended up with about 32 line items i still need to work on, with the caveat that some of the line items had an asterisk, meaning they had their own list of items to include (such as bob's, med kits, etc).

this is just the first opportunity/thread i've seen where i thought it was appropriate to thank you for posting your thoughts on the subject.

Godspeed!
