9/9/99 to bring a preview of armageddon? - Take a look!

http://206.28.81.29/HyperNews/get/gn/1242.html

I submitted this on May 14th of this year to GNIBFI and here (although it appears that many of my posts have been dropped) - If you take a few moments to read it, you will have a better understanding as to why this is yet another Non-Event.

"9/9/99 to bring a preview of armageddon? - Take a look!"

Let me guess, this was writen in Revelations or you are using it for shock effect.

Sorry Dino. Old news. Even older than Jim Lord's stuff. But not as old as Hoffmeister's Old News from 1997.

Try again.

Dino,

We know, you need to catch up here. We've all been saying little if anything will happen.

We're trying to figure out why the media is making such a big deal out of it. Any thoughts on that?

Tick... Tock... <:00=

What follows is MY PERSONAL OPINION ONLY.

Many of us have, in months past, come to the conclusion that as the days tick down (ESPECIALLY AFTER DAY 99), that the media would begin to focus more attention on Y2K. I think this is the beginning of that trend. And since 99/09/09 is a NON-EVENT (always was), they have focused on THAT as their take-off point.

Had there been major problems with 99/09/09, I would have expected to see it in huge bold type on page A1. We're lucky (those of us preparing, anyway) that such a headline was NOT printed. Otherwise, the market would've tanked by tomorrow afternoon, and the banks shortly after, as the final panic began.

By the grace of God, we're still in "snooze mode" nationwide. Don't waste this time...

Simple Sysman...Justa 'nother chance for the nay-sayers to point and say "See! Everything'll work out right! There's nothing to the Y2K issue..." Just another chance to 'spin the screws' down that much more on those who would perpare...

Sysman:

As was the GPS rollover, the dreaded nines are simply a red herring promoted by the Feds to offer another pyhhric (sp?) victory.

As I watched C-Span and some junior senatorial dick-head (sorry, d*ck- head) talk, I got that clear sort-of Eureka! when the obvious finally hit me to the very center of my guts. The Feds are absolutely, positively single-minded on Y2K: "We must prevent a bank run." Nothing else is considered important by comparison. They will risk lives to prevent this prior to the roll-over. After the rollover...bank holidays!

Last humorous anecdote. I ask the paper shuffler at my dog's vet if her (obviously aging) IBM PC and software were compliant and she says (no kidding), "I don't know. I'm just the business manager here."

You gotta love this. "another red herring". HA!

North didn't make any predictions, did he?

Y2Ksupply (aka...) didn't make predictions, did they?

Hyatt didn't make predictions, did he?

Cory H didn't make predictions, did he?

Lord didn't make predictions, did he?

Shall the list go on? You doomers are hilarious!

(maybe if the sysops here is quick, he can delete some of those old, embarrassing 9/9/99 threads from the archives!)

I won't argue that the 9's date is what you call a "red herring", but the GPS problem was real but separate problem from Y2K. GPS didn't have any observed serious effects (and no, I don't consider the Japanese loosing their road maps as serious), but it did cause temporary failures in most cases) of a lot of older consumer GPS devices. Thats hardly a "red herring".

Regards,

Anita - Have you been nibbling on your fishing bait again? Try minnows they probably wouldn't stick between your teeth like the leeches do. :-)

Sysman - I think that the lurker posted the answer you are looking for. There have been SO many people making the prediction that 9/9/99 was going to be a serious event in the IT industry that the media has picked up on it and used it against the would-be prophets.

I don't like the media anymore than the next guy, but let's face it - Bad news sells. The media was working the 9/9/99 angle for the last two weeks with a fervor -and- when things didn't go BUMP in the night - they milked it for yet another day. We all tuned in. That's what they wanted.

Huh? Remarks of this sterling quality really add to your credibility, Dino. Keep it up.
