What should I try when I revisit this location?

I'm not quite sure what to do with this. I like the colors and the contrast between the painted siding and the unfinished window box. My thoughts are that the foreground and right-side foliage are distractions. I plan to revisit the house soon to try again, any suggestions?

John, the window itself is what caught my attention. Try a few shots of just that.

Jim is right. The pattern of the window itself is really eye catching. Try re-shooting it with the bottom edge just below the round leaves in the right hand corner. That preserves the contrast between the window box and the green building side. It also gets rid of the clutter in the very bottom of the current version. Leave the first purple blossom in the left center intact. This will also reduce the height of the photo which to me seems a bit out of proportion.

Good subject. Good photo. Gonna be even better when your done.

The thing that bothers me about this picture is that it is just a flatly lit shot recording an ornate window. There is no art in the photograph, the art is in the window. It is almost as if you are stealing the work of the craftsman who designed it. If you took an evenly lit picture of the Mona Lisa would we say,"great image"? What credit do you deserve for something like this?

I agree with Steve. Part of the problem is that you're just documenting an interesting window with nice flowers below it. Where is your feeling about the window? How about some other angle besides centered and straight on? How about some late day sun and shadows across the window? Try the window from the flower's point of view. Get on a ladder and shoot it from high and close, with a wide angle lens. Shoot it from inside? Be inspired. Get crazy. Tilt the camera. Any one can expose the above photogaph. Bring something of yourself to the image.

I'd try this one from the inside, preferrably on a morning/evening when there's some nice sidelighting pouring through the window. Assuming, of course, the window is facing the right direction...

John, I agree with you about the foliage. As personal preference I'd try to accomodate the right-side foliage with a slightly wider crop. I also like the idea of shooting this from different angles.
