greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

After a $1.30 rise in 24 hours these chips now at $12.95. What's that, an 11% overnight rise following an almost 300% rise over the last few months. (See last week's DRAM thread.)

This goes nicely with the article approx. 6-10 threads below on the tech market. Thanks for the update.

Could someone provide a link for the related threads listed above?

I've hearing about the DRAM price increases on CNBC this week - clearly a Y2K related effect.

I don't know if this was discussed on the other thread, but I recall reading in Dr. Ed Yardeni's "netbook" at the Center for Cybereconomics that he had a discussion with the CEO of Sun MicroSystems who went on record saying that maybe companies should hoard computers for next year since there may be a shortage of chips next year if the manufacturers don't get compliant.

There was also a very informative article on page A6 in the April 28,1999 issue of Investor's Business Daily about the chip making industry. According to the article, something like 80% of all the chips are manufactured overseas - with Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, and Japan being the countries that produce the most.

LINK To A GREAT ARTICLE

The link is not working. See "a great financial article" a few threads below. It is all worth the read but the part on DRAM is about 3/4 of the way down.

I'm sending this to the top to be read in connection with the Taiwan earthquake thread of 9-20-99.
