OT : Transformation : Y2K Savvy Geezer Requests Assistance

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I turn 60 Thursday - DOB 9-9-39

since some say ones 60th is a special day, and since this September 9th is a doubly special Y2K day, I'm requesting suggestions from any and all regarding "transformation":

what do YOU suggest I do on this day to tranform; metamorphose; do the butterfly thing...

different? special? crazy? meaningful? frivolous? active? passive? dumb?

all suggestions considered, nothing can be too crazy

you tell me!

Thanks in advance, - maybe I'll learn or experience something worth passing on...

Perry, Happy birthday. Just do something you enjoy--no pressure.

Whatever, but make sure she's older than your daughter. (and if you can't be good, at least be careful)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Perry, walk around all day with a sign (sandwich board) that says: The end is near! Then come back and tell us about your experiences. :-)

PS- Happy Birthday!

-- Gayla (privacy@please.com), September 08, 1999.

OOooo, Gayla, I like that one...a lot!

Perry,

Here's another possibility. Make up an especially ridiculous troll name, hang out on TB2000 and post something on all the new threads about 09/09/99 being another failed doomer prediction. Consider it a preemptive strike that may keep the Debonkers from doing it instead. You could use a colored font so we'll know it's you and not give you a bad time.

Whatever you do, enjoy. We'll be expecting a full report.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PERRY!!

Happy Birthday Perry!

Do something you think you might NOT be able to do next year.

Party in Paris?

;-D

Hi, I too like to do something special for those birthdays that end in "0".

It is too late to plan this, but for my 60'th birthday I took a trip down the Amazon river -- it was a trip I had wanted to take for a lifetime -- lucky for me I was on the plane for the trip on my 60th birthday.

The only bad thing is that I still get travel broucheres from every travel agency there is -- they think I am a big spender!!

Give yourself this present, Perry. Take a sheet of paper now and write down at _least_ sixty things you've always wanted to do and never have, or things you once enjoyed but haven't done since you were a kid, or something which holds great memories for you. A hundred is better, but sixty fits with your birthday. This will be harder than you might think, and it may take a few days to complete. The first 10 or so are usually pretty easy but then you run out of the big stuff like..travel to Hawaii, etc.

That's when you get down to things like stomping barefoot in a mud puddle, making a batch of snickerdoodle cookies, singing in the rain, making a snowman, buying a whole bunch of helium balloons and letting them go just to watch them float up in the sky -- or giving them to the first sixty-ish lady or six year old you see on the street. I remembered cutting out paper dolls when I was a kid and how I was always bothered because I never could cut them right on the lines. So not too long ago I bought myself some paper dolls and cut them out perfectly. Sounds silly, but it FELT GREAT!

The point is that it does not matter how big or small, serious or silly, the items you put on your list are, because they will be YOURS. Then over this next year, you work on accomplishing as many goals on that list as you possibly can. Check them off, one by one.

Want to visit every state in the union? It's an ongoing goal, pick one and go there. Ever wanted to learn to tango? Put the money out for an adult education dancing class. Want to read a certain book? Want to build a grape arbor? Want to spend a week at a lake in the summer? Ever wanted to grow a beard, shave your head, get a tattoo? Ride a rollercoaster or a Ferris Wheel? Search out a long-lost friend? Learn how to brew beer? Go up in a hot-air balloon? Go skinny dipping? Just pound nails into a board? Build a rocket with an Erector Set? Make a log house with Lincoln Logs? Visit a place you remember fondly? Wear red suspenders? Make love in the back seat of a car? Whatever it is, if it's on your list, your _mission_ is to find a way to give yourself the gift of a dream -- one dream at a time.

And next year, you keep the goals you couldn't get done, and think of more to replace the ones you did do! If you're married or have a significant other, you can both make lists and help each other with accomplishing as much on them as possible.

It's the gift of taking hold of life and celebrating YOU. You'll have a lot of laughs, maybe some memory-tears, but you will not ever feel as though time and life are passing you by.

All best wishes to you -- literally.

Happy Birthday, Perry. And *many* more.

Happy Birthday Perry -- Nearly thirteen years ago, at 9 minutes before 9:00, my daughter Hanna was born. This coming Thursday, you and she will share a birthday. I told her to spend part of her day remembering, part of it planning and part of it doing something exciting. She's decided to get up early and go surfing before school. If your looking for something exciting, how about catching a boat (we're in the South Pacific) and helping me get through the next 8 years? EEEEK! How can you all say 9-9-99 will be a non-event? My daughter officially becomes a teenager!! Help! Aloha -- grngrl

Well Perry, only one more year until you hit middle age...

Happy Birthday.

Hmmm. The reason my health isn't all that great probably has a lot to do with Bonnie's list. Um, I did a lot of those--and more--when I was younger! That makes things easy for me--if you've done all that stuff, you look forward to just kicking back and not doing anything when holidays and birthdays roll around. Not that I have much choice, these days, LOL! I do think, though, on our 13th wedding anniversary (NYE coming up!), I shall take an extra med and have two glasses of champagne--then, after about an hour or two, sit there with the glucometer and see what happens to the blood sugar! Since Sweetie and I celebrate NYE at 7 p.m. EST (midnight in London), I have some time to call the paramedics if necessary. We used to celebrate NYE twice but not since we got older--maybe this year, though. . . .

The wonderful thing about getting older is you can get away with a great deal more than you used to, either because people think you're wise enough to know what you're doing or you're becoming senile. Your parents are often not around to comment on what a fool you're making of yourself, your friends are engrossed in checking their BPs, glucose, heart rate, RTVing, or whatever; your kids are too busy making ends meet, and your grandchildren will give you all sorts of crazy ideas and help you carry them out!

I'd much rather be older than younger, really I would, although I wouldn't mind fitting into that mini-skirt I came across on Sunday and couldn't bear to throw out for sentimental reasons. Did manage to let go of the halter tops and hot pants, though.

Hell, on my next 0-type birthday, I'll be happy enough just to get to the mailbox under my own steam! If I'm in good health? I think I'd like to go on a cruise with The Hungarian (leaving Sweetie at home so as not to embarrass him), where I can become the scourge of the male stewards by patting their nether regions and saying things like, "Nice tush--do you mudwrestle?"

Happy BD Perry!

Bonnie, great list. I white water rafted for my 45th. I have a 0 bd this year and want to balloon. We have a balloon fair every year, so it shouldn't be that hard!
