Interesting items from IBM's not ready list

Here's some interesting items from IBM's list of all products which were declared ready for y2k but are now not ready. Now, some of these items were caught as early as 1997, but my question is this. How many firms received the original compliant statement and checked these items off as complient? I certainly don't know, but most of these items don't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

This is the response from kritter's husband who works as an AS400 system analyst, in re to that mainframe thingy:

The Network Station Manager for AS400, that's the control program for the IBM thin clients (network computers) hooked to an AS400. V3R7 is not the latest release of the operating system...the V4R3 release (the newest release)is compliant to my knowledge. Some people are still using the V3R7, as is my place, but our computers aren't networked so it doesn't matter. We use dumb terminals. All of our software has been remediated and tested, I got them started on that back in '96.

BUT...we're still stocking up folks! ;)

Good job kritter's husband!

Don't have time to access ref info now, but much of this may be older versions, hardware and software, that they may be able to bail on, due to lack of support.

Bunch of ATM stuff though. Hummm...

Tick... Tock... <:)=

Concerning Lotus Notes v.4.0x - its not only old but it's not widely used. Usually wait for versions past x.0 software ...too many bugs as in any modern software.

Don't know about the ATM stuff but on whole I think IBM is probably more ready than most.

Locally, a grocery store chain, a fast food chain, a drugstore chain and the Post Office have all installed IBM cash registers or unique systems (Post Office) made by IBM in the last 60 days.

I just spent my long weekend moving off V3R7 to V4R3, I didn't know there were any problems in 3-7. They sent along a note that said to check thier web site freqently for updates. I didn't make the move for Y2K, just wanted to take advantage of IP improvments and try to stay current. I am still worried about the main application but I have no control over it. We use an outside vendor and they claim it will be ok. They even put it on an old 9402 and bumped the date up once (for a couple of min.) and said it was tested. BTW , I have also been guilty of going 8 months without loading any PTFs. I still have alot of faith in the AS400 but there are alot old pieces in the puzzle and our main app. is in COBOL. I guess the $21K we spent on the new OS was a good idea. Well the Melatonin is kicking in so it's time to go to bed.
