Something on C-Span today but no time set. This would be interesting.

Brian,

Think members-only have access to the transcripts. Uh, FM... you don't by any chance have access?

Or else consider this an RFT (Request For Transcript) from any of our other press lurkers.

Thanks... in advance.

Diane

There are 116 days left and the New Media Society is holding a talk titled: Year 2000 Computer Problem: Pending Crisis or Media Hype?

???!!!!

AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

The only hype is that there ever was media hype. The only hoax is that it was a hoax. GM has spent $471 million to date and isn't done yet. Go tell the CEO that it was all media hype. Geeeeezze!

You don't have to be a member to go. Ray and I are going.

I got the following from C-span email:

SEN. ROBERT BENNETT (R-UT) & SEN. CHRIS DODD (D-CT) LIVE on C-SPAN2 at 1pm ET Topic: Y2K Countdown National Press Club Ballroom

However, going to their site and looking at the schedule for Wed., I didn't see anything.

Good hunting in either case.

I wish Messrs. Bennett and Dodd were presenting on a date other than 09/09/99. It can be hoped that they will not resort to the low road---implying the lack of problems from the dreaded 9's are an indicator of probable success of Y2K.

Sally,

Will you please start a thread after the presentation and post some of your thoughts and observations from the presentation? I'm sure a lot of people will be interested.

I think I can get a transcript. I was invited to this event, oddly enough by the polly in my church who thinks the government wouldn't lie and that the utilities and corporations wouldn't fail to save us all, but who nevertheless opted to be head of our Y2K Committee...??? He got four tickets and invited my pastor, the organizer of our late, but better-than-none efforts for our parish, and me, to the meeting. I could not get off from work this week, and felt it would be the same old spin I read Dodd and Bennett saying. However, I do wish to have a copy of the transcript, and will let you know what transpires.
