Ricoh GR1 trick

This isn't a question, but a helpful hint.

I recently got a Ricoh GR1 complete with case. As the owners of these camers know, the ON/OFF button is too easily pressed - even when the camera is stored in its own carrying case - which can damage the lens extension mechanism.

I've solved this problem by sticking a thick "credit" card (I used one of those special discount cards supermarkets issue) inside the case between the rear inner wall of the case and the camera. It's just as easy to pull the camera out of the case quickly - the only possible inconvenience this causes is having to pay closer attention when replacing the camera in the case, to ensure that the card is on the proper side.

I've tried to press the button by pressing on the card when it's flat against the camera, but it's truly impossible. I also found that using a thinner card (such as a phone card) doesn't absolutely guarantee that the button can't be pressed by pressing on the card.

I know this works with the Ricoh case, because it's the right height so that the end of the card covers the button. I can't say the trick will work with other cases.
