Runner on foggy morning

greenspun.com : LUSENET : General Photo Critique : One Thread

This image was taken on a foggy day which results in the interesting diffusion of the light Canon Rebel G, ef 28-105, fuji superia 400

Hmm...the light doesn't seem all that diffuse to me, the shadows are all fairly sharp. The fog comes off as just background haze, and not an integral part of the shot. As the "main" subject, the runner doesn't exactly pop out of the frame either. Seems like the location could provide something interesting, but this isn't quite it.

Nice shot, but I would be more interested if the runner were closer to the camera. A human face would add some drama, tell a story. Otherwise leave the runner out and show the neat geometry.

Compositionally, this is a static image, with the major lines leading to a center not far from the actual center of the frame. All those nice lines, leading your eye to...what? Does the blurred figure support all the drama of those strong lines? What is interesting about that figure that causes us to pause, or are you just trying to show us a strong composition?

Like your other shot, Tim, your compositional instincts are good. Try harder on the subject matter, engage us with the content. Look forward to more photos.

Thank you for the feedback, I can agree with the comments I have read and I believe I do need to work on making the subject more prominent

I think the picture would look better if the runner was closer to the camera and the orientation of the frame was horizontal, not vertical. That was you would capture more of the foggy background and better communicate what I think you were trying to tell with this photograph.

In addition to the other comments, The image is simply not level. This is fundamentally unsettling. Not all images need to have the camera level, certainly, but tipsy bridges are quite disturbing.
