Lillies in the rain

Taken in the rain above Juneau, Alaska. I like the water beads on the leaves, and the reflection of the second flower at the top. John Thurston Juneau, Alaska

Boy, the silence is deafening on this one. But I hate in when no one comments on my pic's, so here goes... First, this is a very cliche subject, and it doesn't help that the flower is closed. I think that using a polarizer, to cut the reflection on the water would have helped. I would also suggest either a higher camera angle - looking almost straight down or a much lower one might have produced something a little less *normal* (for lack of a better term). For this foto, as is, the least I would do is crop it almost square. like this.

Happy Pictures to ya..

It's yer camera angle, dude.... I feel like I'm gonna pitch head first into the pond, and this is my last veiw before mud inspecting takes priority.

The reflection of the second flower would have made a better second picture, it's a distraction at the edge in this one. And while I'm at it, (and since you asked) the crop's too tight on the bloom, left and bottom. Level isn't always determined by the horizon...t

From an amateur's point of view, nothing leads me into the photograph, my sight is drawn to the flower at the edge. As an alternative a macro shot might have been interesting if approachable and with the sun out or maybe a long exposure if the water was moving. I think flat shots need velvia for punch. Just my opinion.

I have appreciated your comments. Tom, you're right. It does feel like I'm going to fall in. Wayne, you're right. It lacks subject.

It was a grey day, with very soft colors, a steady drizzle, and the flies were huddled up out of the rain. I found the lilly and tried to make an image out of too many elements. Looking at it now, I think I should have left the flower out and concentrated on the raindrop ripples between the leaves.

What do you mean "it lacks the subject"? Not every photo has to have a subject if it has the "mood." Technical complaints: The flower is too close to the bottom, i.e. the picture should have been composed so that the flower is roughly a third of the picture's height from the bottom (remember the rule of thirds). At the same time, you should keep the reflections of trees at the top -- they nicely frame the picture and give it contrast and depth.
