Hi all,

I recently purchased a JVC XV-501BK DVD player. Although the player also supports VCD format, I seem to be experiencing some problems in viewing certain VCDs...

I purchased a set(44 episodes) of a Chinese TV series recorded on 44 separate VCDs. I was able to play the first 28 discs with the JVC DVD player, however I wasn't able to play the remainder 16 discs with the same DVD player. When I took the discs back to the store I bought it from, the clerk was able to play all of the VCDs with his VCD player.

When I tried to load these discs on my PC, the first 28 discs all had proper directory structures with "Mpegav","segment" directories, and the proper .Dat file. I was able to play these discs with the ATI mpeg Decoder. However the last 16 discs that I had problems with did not show the same directory structures. They only had 2 ".cda" files that were 1Kb each, but in Windows Explorer-properties, it read the discs to be around 400 megs full on all the discs.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks for your help in advance!

Would the set you purchased be original copyrighted versions or a pirate copy?

It is supposedly the copyrighted version. The came in their individually printed jewel cases packaged in a nicely printed box. But I now have doubts...

It is a VCD incompatibility issue. Due to VCDs changing standards somethings just do not work the same way anymore. Try them in a Circuit City or Best Buy store on the same player(if you live in the United States) and then on others. If the discs do not work on any of thier players then you do not have original copyrighted versions.
