Syrup of Ipecac?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

If we get run off of our place, I would like to leave behind a jug of store-bought drinking water on the kitchen counter for our attackers. Would lacing it with syrup of ipecac have the usual effect? How much? Does it work on adults the same way as it does on children?

Yes. However, IMHO, after the first swig, anyone would stop drinking it. Therefore, it is questionable whether or not enough of the active ingredients would be ingested.

As a side note, I read an article about the carjacking problems in South Africa. Asides from the nifty gadgets like flamethrowers and blades popping out of the cars, one guy went the low-tech route and leaves a cyanide-laced bottle of booze in the glove compartment.

I'm not saying to go the cyanide route. However, depending on the booze, I imagine the alcohol would cover the taste of the syrup of ipecac. Just don't drink it yourself. :)

James, you're brilliant! I'll do it that way.

Outstanding preparation suggestion! The "preparation" might just be useful for teenagers who raid the liquor cabinet, as well. (We are thinking of becoming foster parents, and this was a concern...)

When you finally get your house back, you'll have to clean up somebody's caked on vomit.

I had a similar thought, though. Label: "Is this artificial sweetner or enough hypochlorite to ream a new one for about 1000 people?" It's a crime most everywhere to intentionally poison food.

It works on both adults and children alike. Try putting it in a partially used bottle of Dr. Pepper. Or even a full bottle with enough removed so with the addition, it won't be over filled. Use the smaller 12 oz size with the screw top; harder to tell it has been opened.

I don't think they would detect the taste nearly as much as from what I remember, Ipecac tastes sort of like concentrated prunes.
