Another prediction down the tube. And nothing happened?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Was this another false doomesday prediciton:

"In the year 1999 and seven months,

From the skies shall come an alarmingly powerful king,

To raise again the great King of the Jacquerie,

Before and after, Mars shall reign at will."

Nostradamus' interpreters have seen solutions to the great secret of the Book of Revelations regarding the final apocalypse that it envisions. Is this to be a 'War of the Worlds'? King Jacquerie in the French verse is Roy d'Angolmois, an anagram for Roi de Mongolois - King of the Mongolians. Will the great threat come from the east - China or Mongolia?

Ahh, this is a Y2K forum. You do know what Y2K is, don't you?

I've got a prediction,

Today is going to be filled with widespread light followed by patchy darkness later tonight.

I predict 'not again' is going to go down in flames.

Does Nostradamus post here???

-- rambo (rambo@thewoods.com), August 30, 1999.

No, no, no - seenit is an old-timer who is not attempting to disrupt.

If anybody would like to review his contributions, let me know - I'll dig'em up and compile them.

Nostradamus, who is he? Is he related to St. Francis, a fellow poster here? Hmmmmmmmm

-- no kidding (no kidding@nokidding.com), August 30, 1999.

My Dear Sir..

There are actually two dates for the Nosty prediction..July being one of them...And the month of Sept. being the other. In his time both the Julian and Georgian calender were used. The month of September (sept being the Latin word for seven) is the other date for the Great King of Terror...And curiously, there is a new comet, named Lee which will make it's closest approch to the earth on or round the 9th of September...With any effects, if there are effects to be felt 0n the 15th-17th of September.

Nostradamus was an immigrant. Changed his name to Notre Dame and took up football.

George Carlin used to do a skit on Saturday Night Live called the Hippy Dippy Weatherman (I think). Anyway, in one segment he advised the audience "The weather tonight will be DARK, followed by light tomorrow, and dark again tomorrow night." :-)

Not Again, I am glad you had the courage to bring this topic to light. Before I went on vacation a couple of weeks back, we were all treated here to prophetical renderings with regards to the month of August, the Mayan 'day of enlightenment' which came and passed, and a rotisserie of 'gut feelings' from the posting public concerning economic collapse and sudden mass panic attacks.

Like every other 'deadline' or 'date with destiny' that has come and gone this year, very little changed. I am still waiting for the earth to shift from its axis, for another great plague to befall us, for the third world war to hit. And yet, I am not holding my breath.

Since I don't embrace any camp mentality, it seems more and more logical to conclude that most dates will come and pass with little to offer mankind. Will January 1st be the same? I don't know, but I am beginning to have my suspicions.

As for dear old Nostradamus, it is correct that his quattrains embodied a few months of the calendar year 1999, but like every other prophet who has a following, it seems noteworthy that his defenders will always point to either the next prognostication or our apparent errors in deciphering the current prophecy. Since even Jean Dixon and Jimmy the Greek got a few right, it doesn't take much to have a following.

My prophetical tastes run to Matthew and John regarding the endtimes. Thankfully, they tended to heed the Good Lord's words that only he knows when the era of His Son's return will be.

Unlike the aforementioned 'seers', that alone allows me to feel some comfort.

Regards.

Nostradamus only works in retrospect.

Once something has happened, THEN we'll see that N. predicted it. Not before.

-- one hundred twenty (three@days.left), August 30, 1999.

I am not an expert on Nostradamas, but some think the possible dates extend into October, based on the calandars in use during his time. I am not predicting that anything will happen, but I am willing to wait until the middle of October before drawing any conclusions about the prediction.

-- Dave (dannco@hotmail.com), August 30, 1999.

Give that Nostadamus guy a break will-yea, after all he was trying to pin-point a specific time a few hundred years into the futher. Now if you roll the time table ahead just a few months to January, then you have somthing to think about. At that time China will have the biggest, badest Navy on the High-seas. All of that wonderful technical superioity that the now modern world has will be down come January for a ????????. So dont write off Nostro yet...---...

I remember Carlin's bit, Gordon. In addition: "Well, man, let's take a look at the radar, man. You'll notice a patch of rain clouds accompanied with a swarm of ICBM's coming from the North...there's a chance of showers this evening, man, but considering the activity that's coming from the north, I wouldn't sweat the showers, man."

-- Tim (pixmo@pixelquest.com), August 30, 1999.

one thing to say Comet LEE !!!! you realy think that the Cassini space probe realy needs 74 lbs of Plutonum, WOW , it only takes 5 pbs to run a aircraft carrer for like 300 years. wake up!!!! funny thing it was sighted during the eclpse but it was not reported to any great extent , duck and cover i think around the 23 of sept is going to be a fun day

-- Ron (mongo@earthling.net), August 30, 1999.

Tim,

Yeah, instead of all this "nobody knows what will happen" bit, Carlin always knew what would happen and told you about it so you could *plan ahead*!

-- Gordon (gpconnolly@aol.com), August 30, 1999.

Ron,

September 23rd is the date that has been mentioned before. After reading about the possible astroid in the tail of Lee's comet (www.repository.com), I am concerned there is something to the prophesy's of Nostradamus and others.

Not again! was at one time a regular and frequent contributor to this forum. I have missed his contributions---they were hard-hitting, uncomfortable to read, real-life experiences from someone who has already lived TEOTWAWKI, and is still here to talk about it. If you do not want to know what survival at its most primitive level is really like, do not ask Not again!, because he might tell you.

Not again!, I would be interested to know from you: if the Nostradamus prophecy is a failed prediction, what does that mean to you? I haven't paid much attention to the many threads regarding psychic phenomena, etc., but I'm assuming you had something in mind when you posted this thread? I clicked here only because it had your name on it, and now I'm wondering what about this interests you?

Was that Nostradamas or Nostradumass?

-- Richard (trubeliever@webtv.net), August 30, 1999.

RUOK,

Yes I am. More so than 95%+ of the people on earth. I have read 1000's of publications on many subjects. My special intests have been the world of finance. There have been many forecasts by financial experts that were not only wrong but completely opposite of what actually ocurred.

Examples:

Howyard Rough predicted hyperinflation in the early eighties. A number of years later he predicted a severe deflation.

Bugless Racy wrote a book in the mid eighties about the coming depression. As did Ravy Buckyard in mid nineties. The only depressions that developed were in the minds of their readers.

Blames Bale Davidpun claimed in the early ninetees that the depression of the 90's had already started.

Boss Hero predicted during the prez debates on tele that, come December of that year, many banks would go belly up. None did; many made record profits.

Etc.

But, just because I've heard wolf so many times does not mean that I won't listen to facts. I look at facts because I trust my judgement more than anyone elses; often my own foresights/instincts/intuitions have been correct about very serious subjects.
