Soaring Gull

Sigma 170-500, @ 500mm, f-5.6, 1/750 sec Sensia 200 handheld.

I know it is a little difficult with a scan, but please comment on image sharpness. any other comments are welcome.

The image was a little blue as well as some other colors  I had to play with different colors to come up with this one which I hope is an improved one. Everything else seem to be fine. The image has a good composition and is correctly exposed.

Very nice image, I like your version better, as for sharpness I cannot tell on my monitor, you might want to look thru a lupe at the slide/neg and see if it is sharp. If you continue to shoot this kind of subject you might set the apeture (16/22) and let the camera pick the speed. Again, very nice. Pat

I'm not sure the idea of shooting birds in flight with f16/f22 is a very good one - if the shutter speed drops any lower on that lens "camera shake" is going to strike, and anything except soaring Gulls are going to come up a little blurred at slower than 1/250, IMHO.

Sharpness I can't tell. I'd *expect* the 170-500 to be a little soft wide open, 400mm prime lens probably being a better option, if you are going to do a lot of this type of shot.
