Relief Shelter Funding

We are a young Relief Agency now located in North Carolina. We have to date, collected, and stored over 80 tons of Relief supplies. Our efforts to obtain funding from the Government, to purchase property to use for a shelter in central Texas has fallen on deaf ears. If there is any one with the resources to assist us through a secured loan, grant, or modest donations please contact us immediately. Our organization is a nonprofit public assistance entity, and can be verified through the NC. Sec.Of State. Time is a critical factor, if you can help, or have other options. Please contact us at: Cross And Crescent Relief Agency,Inc. #81 Tyndall Lane, Maysville, NC.-28555, or Tel. 910-743-6550: email-relief@coastalnet.com. Thank you, and God bless you All. Sincerely, Joyce Sullivan: VP.C/C,inc. Ps. Please excuse the poor grammar, our secretary is on maternity leave.

I was, until recently a grant writer and wrote specifically for gov't grants. I can tell you uniquivicly, that you are too late. I know of no grants that do not take at least a year to process and then usually 3 to 6 months after that to begin receiving funds. I can't help but wonder why you want to do this project, )am not exactly sure what the project is) in Texas rather than NC where you are now? Anyway, forget getting funds from the Gov't. Even if you had a couple of years, I cannot think of any funds your group would qualify for. However, you didn't give us much information.

You are a relief agency in NCar? You have 80 tons (160,000 lbs or approximately 4 tractor trailer rigs full) of "relief supplies".

You want to go to central Texas? What on earth for? You would be within 3 hours driving distance of 5 major cities, each with more than 1 million people (Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth). They all have relief agencies. They all have shelters. They have some form of military bases with huge facilities for shelters.

North Carolina - won't they need your help?

BTW, we moved from Dallas four months ago. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near a populous area on 010100. Relief agencies don't generally move in UNTIL THERE IS A NEED. And I can't recall any bonafide relief agency that would "purchase property to use for a shelter." What's the motive here?

Joyce here, first of all let me apologize for my late response to your questions. We have a traumatic ten days, first of all someone broke into our storage building and vandalized the contents. Next was the Hurricane, and the loss of power(REA), then the Hurricane came back!. This time the power stayed out for a short time, but we lost part of the roof on the storage building. We will have to wait untill daylight to know the full extent of damage. Well first of all let me explain the mission of our organization. Our goal is to establish a series of underground shelters in the midwest. These shelters will be primarily for Children, the Elderly, and the disabled. Then the secondary function will be a soup kitchen, for the general public. Now to the next question. Why in Texas, or the midwest?. There are two main reasons. One is the cost of building underground structures is very expensive, and time consuming. We are talking of tens of millions of dollars. We have located several at a fraction of their original cost. Why underground?, For one thing the constant temperature helps preserve the supplies. Another is the protection it provides for the occupants. Our thoughts are, that Y2K is a small problem compared with the others that we face. They are too countless to list here, but I am sure that you are aware of a few of them. If you wish I will list them later. I can think of at least a dozen that have the potential to bring down our civilization, as we know it. As for Moms questions, Yes we have 80tons+, six trailers loaded, and much more in a storage building. I think I've explained, why the move to the midwest. Next, in case of a catastrophic disaster, the resources of the main relief agencies would be depleted in a few weeks, at the most. Also as you know most shelters suggest you bring your own supplies, they will be madhouses. If any one is depending on a public shelter, then you are history. Next if you can find an underground location that is FREE, we will greatfully accept it. When we started this venture we were very naive, and it didn't take long to wake up. The first question is always the same,"WHATS IN IT FOR ME?",how will I profit?. Wake up Mom, this is a profit driven culture!. We have invested over $100,000. of our private funds so far. We have sold our homes, and other possessions to get this far. We even have to buy clothing, and blankets from the Salvation Army, and others. The competition is fierce. We haven't recieved help of any kind, from anyone. Your last question, " What's the Motive here?". Well we are motivated by our compassion for humamity, especially the very young. They didn't have any part in screwing up this world, but they will be the first to suffer for it. Sure we could crawl into our cozy little hideaways, but if we do nothing for the little ones, would our conscious let us rest?, The children are the key to our future, if we are to have one. We would gladly let you, or anyone else be a part of this effort, for we have nothing to conceal. In fact anyone can drop by at any time our door is always open. Well I guess I had best close for now, for it has been 48 hrs since I last slept. If I seem a little rude, then please forgive me. I had to write this three times, and each time I almost completed it the power fails. God bless you, and all, Joyce.
