Rotten eggs really stink!greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread |
Last February I dipped five eggs in pariffin(sp?) hoping this would keep them from rotting. I had read about this somewhere and thought I'd give it a try. Well, I just opened the margarine tub and they were definately ROTTEN. Oh well, chickens in the garage.

There's one smell worse & that's the yellow cloud following a dog around who found the rotten eggs before you did !

Steve, I read a thread on preserving fresh eggs with KY Jelly (yes, you heard it right) Supposed to keep eggs fresh for a year or more. Spread a thin layer of KY Jelly on dry, unwashed eggs. Return to carton and store in a cool, dark place. I am trying this and if it works plan to do a lot of eggs at the end of the year.

A sailor told me that he routinely stored eggs with a thin coat of petroleum jelly. Haven't tried it myself.

You both have the right idea - coating the eggs for storage but one key peice is missing - they have to be "fresh" eggs, wont work on storebought eggs as they have been through a bleaching process prior to being sold in your local store. (read this on a food storage site recently). See if you can find a source in your area for "fresh" eggs and give it another shot.

Griffin:Are you right? Biological and chemical warfare no longer present me with fear after the same experience! Chemical accidents no problem. My dog is a weapon.
