FDA: Silver in Drugs May Not Be Safe

Over-the-counter drug products that contain colloidal silver or silver salts have not been shown to be safe or effective, announced the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday.

The FDA also said that the general public cannot use these types of drugs safely because adequate directions for the products could not be written.

"Get this... general public (that's you!) CAN NOT use Colloidal Silver anymore because they can't write adequate directions. How hard is it to write 1/2 teaspoon in water once or twice a day?????"

Products containing silver particles have been appearing in stores in recent years, note FDA officials. Labels on these products include claims that the products can treat adults and children for diseases including AIDS, cancer, tuberculosis, malaria, lupus, syphilis, scarlet fever, shingles, herpes, pneumonia, typhoid, and tetanus.

But FDA officials write that such products are misbranded ''when their labeling falsely suggests that there is substantial scientific evidence that the drugs are safe and effective for their intended use.''

"This is simply not true. Colloidal Silver has been tested, written up in medical journals and found completely safe and non-toxic and effective in treating hundreds of organisms. We have had thousands of people use it and find it very effective as a safe, natural antibiotic."

According to the FDA Final Rule issued Tuesday, ``a colloidal silver product for any drug use will first have to be approved by the FDA under the new drug application procedures.''

"They are basically not going to permit anyone to say anything about colloidal silver being a natural antibiotic. No references to the incredible value in treating some of the hardest to kill microorganisms. Alarming, isn't it, considering all we are hearing from the CDC is that the microbes are becoming antibiotic resistant and we have to find other solutions. Well folks, here goes one!!! I am sure most of you know by now that to get a "drug" approved it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars and takes years."

Use of colloidal silver solutions, where silver particles are suspended in a gelatinous base, can result in argyria, "a permanent blue-gray discoloration of the skin and deep tissues,'' notes the FDA. (This Argyria scare is based on very rare isolated insidents on the use of impure colloidal silver, prescribed by medical doctors back in the 40's. If you research this you will find they were given massive doses and it is not even the same Colloidal Silver preparations that we use today)

"This is also lies. Have you ever seen any Colloidal Silver on the market in a gelatinous base? I have personally tested Colloidal Silver on dogs, cats, horses, goats & ferrets, and found it effective EVERY TIME! Thousands of our members have taken it with no side effects EVER reported of any kind and NO ONE ever got gray skin. Now you know who has put out all the 'turn your skin gray' disinformation!"

The products in question include colloidal silver ingredients and silver salts such as silver proteins, mild silver protein, strong silver protein, silver chloride, and silver iodide. The drugs are usually in oral dosage form, but sometimes exist in topical (to be applied to the skin) and even intravenous forms.

"Silver iodine??? Good grief this has nothing to do with colloidal silver!!! I think they seed clouds with this silver iodide stuff! Folks this is very serious as it an out and out removal of your rights to choose safe, natural alternatives to the chemical killers being dished out by the mainstream medical people. We all know this is about money and pharmaceutical drug cartels controlling the markets, with no regard to your true health and well being. The FDA is not interested in your well being, if they were they would not only read the thousands of documented reports on Colloidal Silver they would recommend that all the doctors in this country use it!!!"

"Raise cain on this one folks and in the meantime get your Colloidal Silver stock while we still have it available!"

[As a follow up, I read (sorry, no link)that legislation will be considered in mid-September that would ban OTC sales of colloidal silver. I know this is a somewhat controversial topic, but, for those of you, like myself, who have used this product successfully, now is the time to learn to make your own!]

I have used the colloidal silver from Herbal Healer with good success. You should be able to find it in your local health food store.

I've read elsewhere that Silver Solutions has a good quality colloidal silver generator for make-your-own-at-home use. I'm ordering one today.

I hate the FDA. I don't think the agency has any business in restrcting the use of natural substances that people want to use. This makes me go "grrrr."

Thank you for posting this article and thankyou for this discussion.

I read this article in my local paper a few days ago and I wondered about the "turning the skin blue" part. Today they were discussing colloidal silver on Truth Radio and there were glowing reports about the stuff. I think we are entering a time when the more people educate themselves on this subject the better.

Questions:

1) Does anybody know if it is effective in helping the body "shrug" off the effects of nuclear radiation?

2) How is it taken? A few drops in a 8oz glass of water? A tablespoon in an 8oz glass of water? Once a day? Once a day for a week and then discontinue? I heard it can be sprayed on the skin or applied topically. Please advise.

3) I heard you can make your own for about 58cents a gallon if you have your own generator. Are we talking about a different kind of generator than would power our electrical appliances? The above post mentioned that the generator costs only $59.95. Do you also have to buy "silver strings" or silver electrodes or something to charge the liquid? How much do these cost?

I've seen the reports of good things colloidal silver has done, but what about the problems? Does anyone know of problems that people have had from taking it? As we enter the new century with resistant bacteria on the rise and the inability to obtain antibiotics as a distinct possibility, I'd like to add this to my contingency planning unless there's a really good reason not to!

Also, the CS I've been getting from Herbal Healer is 500 PPM and has a purported shelf-life of several years. Is there an economical (and safe) way one can make home brew of this potency and stability? Is there a commercially available CS generator that can provide reliable, high-quality results for those of us who are electrically/mechanically challenged non-solderers? Are you providing updates of your research somewhere else now that the discussion seems to have gone dormant on the entreweave forum?

I apologize in advance for all the questions, but it was your comments in the TB2000 Classic Forum that lead me to try CS, and I have had wonderful results with its use. Learning that it may no longer be available OTC has me on a quest for alternatives.

I've been ingesting over 2 mg. per day of colloidal silver (my recent prep is completely clear and has an indefinite shelf-life) off and on (mostly on) for almost 2 years with no ill effects.

The only thing that occurs is that you don't get sick and it clears up topical infections as well. If you need more info drop me a note. I've written a research report which quantifies, for the first time, colloidal silver retention in humans.

Don't listen to the debunkers. They have practically NO first hand knowledge, and are relying on incomplete, unsubstantiated old news. If the colloidal silver is prepared properly, I believe it is safe to use, has virtually no side effects, and is VERY effective against a wide range of infection.

Tnx for posting those 3 URLs referencing my posts in the Main ("Classic") TimeBomb2000 Forum. The second one has the cut/paste of my most important post in 1998 on the y2k.entrewave.com forum (the "March 24th Update".) It answers a lot of questions people are asking now.

The second URL you posted is significant in the extent of MISinformation that is posted there. I haven't got time to address them -- too busy getting the Y2K Ham Radio Net going.

Now, in addition to the URLs you posted their is some really good stuff on the Roger Altman threads, where I talk about moderating my views from a year ago (particularly in the "March 24th Update" post, -- on the basis of his work I now feel a lot better about the SAFETY of C.S., and also about the safety of taking it LONG-TERM, PROPHYLACTICALLY.)

Next, an apology: there is nothing posted on the Prep Forum of mine --- I got mixed up with stuff I did on the Main forum.

Now to your specific questions here quoted:

No, there is no SAFE (but it IS economical) way to homebrew the hi-potency stuff. Also, you've got to know your way around electronics, physics, and mechanical construction to do it. My advice: forget homebrewing it.

Yes, there ARE commercially available rigs that will do it: CSProSystems (www.csprosystems.com) and Motherlode /Advanced Colloidal Systems (www.register.com/motherlode). Bruce Marx runs the first show and David Ripley the second. Check them both out. My take on them: David was the original inventor and 'nerd,' and Bruce the upgrader and marketeer. They both have interesting websites. Both are legitimate and I have first and second-hand evidence that their products do what they say they do. However, I'm surprised the FDA hasn't lowered the boom on them yet. I would think their business ventures will soon come to a dramatic end.

CAVEAT: Both their products require a source of 120vAC power --- where you gonna get that post-y2k? (I assume you are not throwing in your lot with the majority of posters on the TB2000 forums -- who expect 'worstcase' Y2K will be a terrible nightmare for "x" number of days, or at worst weeks. For others who are lurking this thread: if that description fit you don't even bother with homebrew C.S. --- just lay in a stock of hi-priced broadspectrum antibiotics, which BTW won't protect you against viruses or fungi.)

As to your final question, no I'm not updating my C.S. work --- no time --- too much preps to do --- too little time. ALSO I'VE HAD IT UP TO HERE WITH THE 'MEDICAL' EXPERTS ON THIS AND OTHER FORUMS WHO ''KNOW" HOW "DANGEROUS" AND "INEFFECTIVE" C.S. IS ---- My parting comment: YOU SHOULD ALL 'TURN BLUE'!

But bitterness aside, the bulk of what needs to be said about LVDC (low voltage DC) generators I've already posted on the sites mentioned. You don't need to know any more to homebrew the LVDC stuff (using my "Mar 24th Update" guide.) And if you've got the $$$ and the reliable long-term source of 120vAC you can go for one of the HVAC products. And that about sums up where the leading edge is re C.S.
