Domain Name (24th August Entry)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I Wasn't Built to Get Up at this Time : One Thread

If I do splash out on a domain name, what do you think I should get?

It has a ring to it.

Katie has a point.

Ack! I just ran VisitMyWebSiteOrIWillComeAfterYouWithAHackSawWhilstYourSleeping.co.uk through domainnames.co.uk, and it's 2 letters too long! Katie and Rebecca are right, though; it does have a nice ring to it. I would suggest IWasntBuiltToGetUpAtThisTime.co.uk, but I've never been a fan of long domain names. Anywho, I do like the sound of WasntBuilt.co.uk, so maybe you should go for that.

Tim:

Whatever you choose, keep in mind that you may want to change the title of your journal at some time... keep it simple because it will be your email address ending... (i.e. gbdesigns.com is my domain and ends my email address).

Think of a name that represents you and then have your journal be a part of it.... for example I use: www.gbdesigns.com/commixion as my journal name. Hope this helps.

I do like the ring to the one about using a hacksaw to someone while they are sleeping.... it might be hard to email you though.

Greg, that's what I was thinking about. I mean, a funny domain would be nice and http://www.IWasntBuilt.co.uk or http://www.WasntBuilt.co.uk or http://www.TooEarly.co.uk are okay, but what if I change the journal name - which at some point I wish to do (my lifes ambition is to get a good job where I don't have to wake up before 9am!). Maybe one with my name in http://www.TimP.co.uk or, since it hasn't been taken I could even get http://www.onlinejournal.co.uk or http://www.myjournal.co.uk. Another thing is if I want to get one with my name in and put a 'public' homepage there, and then the journal in a secret sub-directory.

And then, I might not get one at all!

Well, I'm very fond of "http://www.zedrulestheworld.co.uk", but then, I would be. http://www.VisitMyWebSiteOrIWillComeAfterYouWithAHackSawWhilstYourSlee ping.co.uk is v. good, though (maybe miss out "Web" to make it short enough.) Being serious for a moment (what? Zed? Nay, it's an imposter!) TimP is probably the best idea, if you're going to put up a non-journal page. (Which is a wise idea, but sooner or later, someone you don't want to read the journal will...)
