Hemp as animal food?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hemp being a versatile plant, maybe it's a silly notion to feed it to animals when it can be used for making cloth and paper and rope, and the oil from the seeds being beneficial in human nutrition. But does anyone know if it would be useful to feed goats or other animals?

Someone wrote making the point that it is illegal to grow cannabis sativa in the U.S. You're right, in the U.S. it is illegal to grow any strain of cannabis sativa. There have been some special exceptions given to experimental farmers in the U.S., but the DEA is strongly opposed to legalization. They choose to ignore the positive reports coming back from Canada. The point of my question is that the more uses there are for the plant, the stronger argument can be built to overturn its prohibition.

My interest is in the hemp strains of cannabis, but even the "marijuana" strains have medicinal use. In no way, however, would I encourage anyone to grow cannabis sativa in the U.S. until it is legal.

Hello,

I've got the stuff growing wild in a lot of places on my ranch. My pigs really like it.
