Hiding valuables

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

Hello everyone

A while back there were several interesting suggestions for hiding and burying valuables. I cannot find them. Does anyone have any idea where they are stored?

Thank you.

citygirl, I know that there is at least one excellent thread in the archives of the Classic TB2000 forum; as I recall, it titled something like "Where to hide your loot". The Classic Forum is too busy right now, otherwise I would have looked, as I know that I have consulted it.

As long as we are on the subject, let me emphasize to everyone -- because this is so important -- to especially make sure that you take great care when you store paper, and cash in particular. Mold and mildew can wreak havoc on greenbacks, and I have read of horror stories on one of Gary North's Y2K forums. Be sure and protect it against fire, theft and mildew. Checking on it every now and then is not a bad idea, either.

I read somewhere recently that you can use PVC to hide valuables. Using the size for a sewer (4-5" width) , cut to the length you want. Then use the close-off caps to seal your goodies (cash, coins) inside. Penda

To everyone else: I sealed some cash in plastic using the vacuum sealer we use for food. No damp, no oxygen. Just protect it from abrasions if you are going to put it in the ground.

Penda's idea is a good one, several times over the years I have been asked to install three or four 5 1/2" PVC (well casing)pipes in a bedroom closet when building a new house. With a flush cap on top and the carpeting installed no intruder would have a clue that rifles and shotguns (and who knows what else)is stashed in the closet.
