Remember, you soften buckskin by rubbing it with the animal's brain (with gloves). On the other hand, a bolt of denim ain't a bad idea.

Bolts of cloth- that's for the optimists. The rest of us are looking for cotton seed (probably not a viable crop in Wis) and experimenting growing and processing flax, while my spouse and friends are spinning and weaving after we shear the sheep, etc.

You do have sheep, don't you?

You guys are only worried about Y2K? What kind of doomers are you? I live on the East Coast and expect to be washed out to see with the tsunamis from the meteors or floods from the melting polar caps. (If they aren't melting, why is there now an enormous ice floe off the coast of South America.) Other than that, I'm frankly expecting to wear rags eventually. Is that so wrong?

Well I'm certainly gonna have hemp seeds! Any hints on how to get from plants to thread?

We have boxes of cloth stored, along with a quantity of thread and notions. We might still have a bit of yarn left, too.

Anyone think of patterns? Some of us can make medeival style clothing (ala the Society for Creative Anachronism) without patterns...
