That IS and interesting little snippet. Especially when you compare it to all the other low numbers. What do they consider an analyst? (Looks like a private web-site).

Heres an INTERESTING analyst description... for the The Information Coordination Center (ICC)!!!

POSITIONS TO SUPPORT Y2K CONVERSION

Are you a civilian or military government employee who is a self- starter and would like a great learning experience? Would you like to join an important Federal government team involved in a project that is a top national security priority? If so, why not consider a detail to support the Year 2000 (Y2K) conversion?

The unique nature of the Y2K conversion represents an all encompassing challenge with the potential for many widespread incidents occurring nearly simultaneously, some potentially cascading through related sectors of our society. Some of these incidents are likely to be unforeseen, despite ongoing mitigation and preparedness efforts. The Federal government must have a process in place to respond to Y2K problems that could adversely affect our national interests at home and abroad.

The Information Coordination Center (ICC) was established to implement a process to respond to Y2K problems. The process will be collecting, exchanging and coordinating information from various sources to create a unified picture of what's happening around the world as well as across the United States.

Working for the ICC will give you exposure to a wide-range of different government operations that will provide you with a greater knowledge of how government works.

The ICC will be staffed by civilian and military officials from executive agencies who will be detailed to a variety of positions for a time period not exceed six months to one year. Positions include, but are not limited to, computer specialists, telecommunications specialists, security specialists and managers, analysts, and administrative support staff.

Gawd! What an intriguing job THAT would be! Humm... I wonder?

Go for it, Diane!

Nasty commute for ya,though....;-)

-- Lewis (aslanshow@yahoo.com), August 18, 1999.

LOL Lewis!

Wonder if they'd take "stringer's" in Silicon Valley?

What a ringside seat that would be! Almost tempting. (Talk about "high-risk" contract employment! At least you KNOW you'd be fed and housed... in a swivel chair at a terminal).

;-D

bill?

Why the title? Are pollies the only ones who can save your ass?? It would be nice, but probably not. Sysman is in there remediating with the best of them.....he's no polly.

I'm sure there are other 'GIs' that are remediating too. My boss is the self-proclaimed 'Goddess of Gloom and Doom' and she's an Executive Director of Y2K Compliance.

So why the title bill?

Why the title? I don't know, just came to me. Of course I don't think only pollies are working on the problem.

If this is an accurate number of programmers uncle needs to finish the last 1% of the fixes, it may point out trouble ahead. I don't think there is close to that many looking for work right now.

My hat is off to those that are working their fingers to the bone trying to fix things for the rest of us. Regardless of the outcome, you are still the heroes of the day in my book. I just hope that too may of you don't bail in December, although I wouldn't blame you if you do.

Still curious about the # of warden's secretary positions open. Maybe the were all retrained as programmers?

Deano -

And tell Herself that she doth grow in power and in influence daily. Soon even those in The Walled Street, so secure now in their rich trappings and stock options, will feel her wrath! The Day approacheth!

Oh, yeah, and give her my best. 8-}]

Thanks for the links, Diane -- most of the totals by occupation look way off, esp. the "175608 Y2K ANALYST JOBS " , also 23k website designers. None of these appear under the listings by agencies (clicking letter by letter). 100 Y2K analyst jobs appear in DC, none in NY, Calif, Tx. I didn't click on all states.

Looks like a massive "_____ error" in their summation column.

bill

Sorry I took offense to the title. Had just had a converse with 'ray' and quite honestly, that waste of skin just rubs me the wrong way everytime he opens his trap. Again, I apologize. In my organization there are many, MANY pollies working on Y2K, a few, very few doomers too. But we're all in it together.

Mac

Will do. A lot of folks around here are feeling her wrath as we speak! :-)
