Just caught a 10 min piece on NJ net news today. NJMEP.ORG will evaluate free of charge an inventory listing of equipment used in a NJ facility. This is plugged into a large database of equipment and a report is turned back to the owner for evaluation.

The CEO of this organization said the it would typically find about 40% failure or highly suspect failure rate amount the more than 1000 facilities inspected.

The are over 13000 munufactureres in NJ, it seems odd that only less than 10% participated. It's a little late now I think for much to be done, but complacency seems too reign.

Maybe Bruce Beach wasn't so wrong after all.

Y2K: 1,000 Manufacturers May Face Closure

New Jersey MEP has partnered with New Jersey's higher education community, including its nineteen (19) county colleges and the Department of Labor in order to reach a larger number of manufacturers. We will be hosting seminars and on-site assistance to aid New Jersey's 13,000 manufacturers.

At no cost, the New Jersey MEP will provide a Y2K Self Help Tool, up to four hours of on-site training, and a compliance check on one of your Mission Critical Systems. The training that will be provided by the county colleges and higher education community, will assist you in selecting a Mission Critical System and show you how to use the Y2K Self Help tool to conduct an inventory of the devices in this system. Once the inventory is completed, the list will be submitted to TAVA Technologies' national database, that is comprised of over 110,000 devices, to determine which devices are Y2K compliant, non-compliant or suspect. NJ is my own state. What's so sad about this is that "the powers that be" have waited so long to take this seriously. Maybe they have had an inner need to minimize the situation, like our favorite Pollys do. Now with 4-1/2 months to go and thousands of businesses at risk, they come up with a program that should have been in place over a year ago. I think this is just the tip of the iceberg of awareness, beginning to peek into view on the edge of the radar screen.
