What am I gunna do with all this stuff???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I've been double-whammy'd today.

First, I was informed by no less than Mr. Steve Hewitt that Y2K is a non-event.

Now, his holiness Dalai Lama tells us that Y2K is a non-event.

Well Hello Dalai, well hello Dalai, it's so nice to see you back again.....

Halloween is coming, hand it out to all the tricker treaters!

Quadruple whammied by Jack Daniels is my guess. The link is even more obscure than your post. It's 10PM PDT here. Get some sleep.

-- Carlos (riffraff1@cybertime.net), August 14, 1999.

Oh, well it's just my imagination, Running away with me. Oh yes it's just my i-mag-i-na-tion, Running away with me....

-- Hiway (Hiway441@aol.com), August 14, 1999.

the Dalai Lama does not accept Christ are you going to take his advice on issues that concern your families well being. I think not. Got Christ. Listen to those who truly have the holy spirit in their heart. If they dont have Christ they dont have the Holy Spirit. By wise concil you will wage your own war, or prepare for the consequences of one. Let's get real here if the lights, phones and water go down for any extended period of time it will be a war like it or not. Dont be asleep when the time comes be aware. Commit your plans to the Lord and you will succeed in what ever you do. Peace be with you in the name of our God Son's Name Jesus.

-- Don Wegner (dwegner@cheyenneweb.com), August 14, 1999.

carlos......here's what i found at the link provided:

(snip) Asked what his vision was for the new millennium, his holiness simply replied, "Nothing." But in his sing-song voice, he added it was up to people to build a happier world come 2000. "The millennium itself will not bring any new things," he said.(/snip)

y2k aware mike.......i think don was speaking with "tongue in cheek"

: )

Thanks Andrea...glad somebody's awake around here!

Guess I'll hafta start inserting a "tongue in cheek" disclaimer from now on!!

The Dalai Llama originally (1954) did not think the occupation of Tibet by China was a 'big deal'.

-- Forrest Covington (theforrest@mindspring.com), August 14, 1999.

And it is also obvious that Y2k aware mike has zero tolerance for anyone not like himself, at least in the religious arena.

"KUNDUN" was a great movie.

-- Andy (2000EOD@prodigy.net), August 14, 1999.

Let's just say that since age 15,His Holiness the Dalia Lama has had other things on his mind.

-- zoobie (zoobiezoob@yahoo.com), August 14, 1999.

What kind of special powers does His Holiness have? We're only asking for a 6 mos remote view....

-- KoFE (your@town.USA), August 14, 1999.

y2k aware mike --

You wrote "the Dalai Lama does not accept Christ are you going to take his advice on issues that concern your families well being. I think not." While I think Don was being a little facetious about 'what will I do with all this food an ammo'. I don't think he believes either the Dalai Lama or Mr. Steve Hewitt (who did state in a thread below that he believes y2k is a non-event) of Christian Computing Magazine.

-- just an observer (hmm@hmm.hmm), August 14, 1999.

I was in the same room once with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, at a talk that he gave, you know the kind, Richard Gere was there, yadda, yadda, yadda... Anyway, I promise you, you can FEEL the spiritual energy emanating from the man! It was riveting! People from all walks of life are capable of tapping into that energy.

Of course, this doesn't mean that the guy has a clue about Y2K.

-- (dot@dot.dot), August 14, 1999.

Dot.dot,

Lucky you!

It makes me chuckle when those on this forum who pride themselves on being able to see the "big picture" run off at the mouth about Masters such as Christ & the Dalai Lama. The Great Ones are "Big Picture" seers, dealing in truly important matters of the soul. Y2K is irrelevant when looked upon with the higher senses.

Mike, I feel it is truly wonderful you've found your path. Presenting yourself as an "I'm right, your wrong" kinda guy is beyond sad. It's pitiful to witness/experience. Please look within, if you are at all predisposed to do so, and ask your Beloved Christ if this is the attitude you should display when communicating in a group setting.

Try to get past the ego during introspection. When the ego is allowed to acquire too much power within our complex beings, imbalances in our sense of importance occur. This is more often than not the catalyst for expressing polarizing views such as that which you posted above.

Best Wishes,

-- Bingo1 (howe9@pop.shentel.net), August 14, 1999.

Wow...Don dont worry, Les to the rescue. How much of that food and ammo do you have. Hows about a single lot price. This is just like the stock market, Y2K fears down, adleast on this thread, Blow-out deals on Y2K stash.....I happen to have 10 times what my wife and I need, Im stocking up with bonus package deals for when J Q PUBLIC wakes up....so how much you want for that Y2K stash ..My buy offer will end tonight, Im getting indications of a silver bullet next week , but dont tell any one..

-- Les (yoyo@tolate.com), August 14, 1999.

Christians by their belief are intolerant. God is intolerant. Christ is intolerant. Not of people, but of beliefs. Most have seen the popular verse of John 3:16-"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." OK. But what about tolerance for other religions. Read on. John 17 & 18 reads, in Chirst's words-"For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already beacause he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."

Christians either believe what Christ said or they are not Christians. Christians who look within for answers rely on self. This is not Biblical.

So, by their pure belief, they, by default, are intolerant. Why do you think Christ was/is hated by so many? Becasue He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one sees the Father except through me." OUCH! Can it be made any clearer? This is why Christians were, are, and will be hated by those who want another way to God. Got Christ?

-- Reason (intolerant@Christian.com), August 14, 1999.

Yes, Christianity is the mafia of religions. Take John 3:16 for instance, sounds like the Godfather to me. "Hey youse better believe in me, and we'll take care of you, but you go with that other family and you're dead meat, got it?" Scaring the shit out of people always has a way of making them fall in line behind the correct godfather---I mean god. That's why accepting Christ as your savior is called "fire insurance," among waggish Christians.

-- gilda (jess@listbot.com), August 14, 1999.

DUH--everyone is intolerant whether you realize it or not? do you mind when people steal? do you mind murder? do you mind people having sex with your children or your aged mother against her will? gee, if you do then you are rather intolerant, i would say. the difference is when tolerance is defined according to what is politically correct at the moment or according to your own personal standards.

for those of you that consider christianity "intolerant". obviously you have never truly studied the bible, nor the claims of christ because if you had (sincerely and with an open mind) you would become a GI. CS Lewis was an atheist and educator (this story has been repeated over and over again with other well known people) that set about to disprove the bible and in doing so was converted. all religions are intolerant to a point because they set standards. yet christianity is incredibly unique from all the other religions in that it is the only one that gives salvation as a totally free gift--you can't earn it.

the reason we seem "intolerant" is because we realize that there is a divine creator who is perfect and "whole" (the derivation is the same for holy) who set up a perfect earth and system initially. he gave us free will to choose him or not choose him but he also gave us a user's manual by which to live a whole and happy life and create a "whole" society that functions well and equitably. christians see the long term and short term benefits of having restraints and guidelines that are set forth in the user manual. that is why we are intolerant.

however, if you don't like this system, just stick around for awhile because according to the user manual, god is going to call an end to all of it soon and take the earth back--maybe even within your lifetime. and then those of you that don't want to hang out with god in this life--don't worry--you don't have to in the next nor with any of these "rigid" intolerant christians. those of us that like him--will happily go with him in the next. hey, if you are a non believer and don't have the opportunity to use your supplies next year--don't worry--you will have the opportunity to use them up before too long.

-- tt (cuddluppy@yahoo.com), August 14, 1999.

I too believe in a "higher power", or a "divine creator," or something other than what we can see here, but Christians don't have a patent on the creator.

Seems a lot of folks above are reading the Dalai's Lama's words though their own mind-set to the point where what he actually said is just a trigger, not really paid attention to. He said "It's the same day, the same sun." "The millenium itself will not bring anything new." This is not really addressing Y2K, but just stating that there is no power in the change of a millenium per se. That all days are alike. The same sun will be shining, etc. To my own mind, he is just saying that rolling over to a particular manmade date does not mean anything to Nature, that the sky will not darken, etc. When asked for his vision of the date change, he says "nothing." I have spent time with him, and he is a wonderfully straight-forward person. I understand him to mean exactly what he says, that he has not had a vision about this at all. So, he is not saying anything one way or the other about Y2K. Also, though he is one of my favorite people on the planet, I have heard him humbly state that he is not enlightened. So he never makes any kind of "infallible statements," anyway. Y2K is something we each need to study and draw our own conclusions about. Take that responsibility. Not expect some infallible expert or saint to tell us the Absolute Truth about it, and base our actions on that. This level of uncetainty is one of the most difficult things about Y2K. Personally, when I accepted that that is just how it is, I was ableto be both a lot more functional and a lot more at ease. Shivani

People, what difference does it make what Steve Hewitt, or the D. Lama, or the Pope, or even I have to say about y2k?

Make up your own mind & act accordingly.

Is that really so difficult?

Gadzooks!!!

It was a J O K E folks!!!

You know....hahahahaha heheheheheh hohohohoho

Or as Milne would say: BWAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Are Y2K and humor mutually exclusive around here or what? Some of you people need to lighten up...seriously! Yer gunna die young!

-- Don Wegner (dwegner@cheyenneweb.com), August 15, 1999.

"he gave us free will to choose him or not choose him"

You mean the Crusades and the Spanish Inqustion was all about getting people to exercise their free will to choose Him, and not just a form of genocide? WOW! You do learn something new everyday

The article says alot more about Tibetan Buddhism than it does about Y2k as we discuss it here. Nonetheless many people will use his words as yet another excuse to live in Oblivia.

The year 2000 is "nothing" because according to Tibetan Buddhism everything we think of as something is Maya/Illusion/Nothing. I am nothing, you are nothing Richard Gere is nothing, gerbils are nothing.

Don,

I know you meant this to be a joke but the Dalai Lama is much loved and respected. If the Pope declared that Y2k was going to be no big deal and you posted that here I can assure you very few people would think it was funny. Thanks for the great link.

Shivani,

Nice post.

R,
Richard Gere is nothing?? Have you ever seen him up close? Ooooooh, Baby!

-- (GerEisAbabe@yummy.com), August 15, 1999.

LOL!! Even Gere is nothing - but hey so is Christy Brinkley. Its an equal opportunity nothing.
